I went to a tea plantation when I was in Malaysia and bought some of their teas. I've been drinking the Boh Cameronian Gold and it's fantastic. It's now my go-to tea. I still have 2 other varieties that I haven't tried from some other tea plantations I went to, should open them up now that it's starting to get cold here in Canada.

It depends on how you like tea. A Gaiwan or Chinese teapot are my go to brewing vessels, but if you like to brew a large quantity at a single time they wont suit you.
As for good tea, it depends on your tastes, so you will need to experience a variety of types and styles to pin that down. I do recommend that you do some research to ensure that the teas you purchase are farmed using ecological viable methods, and do not economically exploit the farmers and surrounding communities.

Some black tea from Bardu, Nepal. Malt and honey were the prevailing notes, so it goes without saying that it was more on the sweet side. I think the trees were pretty young, and would be interested in buying more in a few years after they have established bigger roots.

What would you guys recommend? I already have a 150ml gaiwan but i want to get something bigger, so a teapot. Im choosing between the glass one that is 200ml or the other one that is 350ml.

I feel that 200ml isnt alot more than what i currently have, but i would rather have it glass so i can see the tea. 350ml is better but i doubt i would use all of the space avaible so i wont have to put more tea in, but i can put in more water to make more tea with the same amount of leaves. Im at a loss

I’m brewing with a 100ml Gaiwan and that’s enough for me. I guess a 350ml pot would work for a large party, but for solo brewing? No way. Say that you’re brewing an Oolong and you get eight-nine-ten good steepings. That’s more than 3 litres of tea.

>implying how to make tea isn't basic shit
here's what you need to do:

get tea, find out the volume of your teapot/gaiwan, and find a reasonable amount of tea to add. it can vary, but it does not need to be super precise. for 120 ml, i like about 4 grams, but many people would use around 7 grams. this is for chinese teas, japanese teas prefer less leaf and longer steeping times (they are more difficult to get right, i would recommend starting with Chinese oolongs or blacks)

pour in water (not (usually) boiling, but near boiling can be good). short steeping time of around 20 to 60 seconds, increase as you do multiple brews. Use filtered water, if you do not have a Brita or something similar use bottled water. this is probably the only 100% solid rule in tea.

drink tea. if it is bitter, reduce the water temperature. if it is still bitter, take out some of the leaves and try again. it's all up to taste, and the great thing about gaiwans is that it makes this process much easier compared to a giant European style teapot.
(remember tea has natural bitterness, i mean if it is unpalatable)

my general preference is greens and greenish oolongs (for example a very light tieguanyin) are good from 160-180 fahrenheit, oolong 170-200, blacks 180-200, white tea around 180, raw puer around 190, cooked puer boiling.
tl;dr add tea + water until you find a ratio (and temperature) that you enjoy. you do not need precisely 4.265 grams per 174 ml.

or, you could have googled it. steepster is good for brewing recommendations, but you do not have to do exactly what the next man says.
if anybody wants to make a new pastebin with these recommendations feel welcome, I'm a little tired of half the posts in /tea/ being the same question

>> No.11587543

>>11587504
しあわせ (shiawase) means happiness/bliss/contentment.
こいこい (koi koi) "Koi" is the imperitive/command form of the verb "kuru" (to come). So this means "come, come".
やってこい (yatte koi) is another expression expressing desire for something to come.

So, all together, しあわせ こいこい やってこい means "come, come happiness".

The Japanese name for these lucky cats is "maneki neko". "Maneki" is the descriptive/adjective form of the verb "maneku", meaning to invite. Many stores will have a maneki neko with a gold coin, so that the cat can invite gold/wealth to the business, ie a charm to wish monetary success and good furtune. In your case, this cat is inviting "shiawase", or happiness.

It's really good for how cheap it is. Just needs to be brewed right. Though the last time I bought some it had a slight fishiness to it.

I got some pic related a while ago. It's nice in a similar way, and I'm not big on flavored stuff. Really aromatic green tea with a flavor that's somewhere between citrus and pine. It almost reminds me of citrusy hops in beer.
