Industry thread...if anyone on /ck/ is in the industry.

Am an idiot for wanting to work in the industry but not wanting a stressful job?

Sort of. Doing prep/grunt work early morning for the lunch/dinner shift is pretty chill, and half the time you're doing work for the next day and have plenty of time. But food is immensely stressful and high demand. Have you ever actually cooked? Even a somewhat simple dish can require your complete attention for like 15-30 minutes sometimes.

Never done cooking on a line. Done some ok home cooking is my actual experience. I completely agree with your last statement.

I would of thought the stress put on by customers would be more than the actual cooking itself?Cooking is pretty relaxing even if it requires a great amount of focus for me at least.

I imagine stress is just an occupational hazard.

Kind of in a similar situation myself, trying to decide if I want to take my career towards cooking or keep doing what I'm doing and keep it as a hobby, maybe do some home orders if I can get my name out there.
Though I'm more interested in baking, which I've heard is still stressful just in different ways from working the line.

Get a job as a prep cook or work at a chocolatier, butcher, or baker. Still in the industry but much more relaxed. Catering too to some degree.

Am linecook. Am functioning alcoholic with a cannabis habit who works 5-7 days a week and 55ish hours a week and is very stressed cooking 80 dollar steaks with rich old fucks who complain just to get their money back and my ass reamed in the bad way. If youre crazy its fun cause everybodys got a defect, line cooking is for the fuck ups so everybodys got a funish story. Fuck front of house. Fuck on the fly, if i could cook it faster i would.
