Misspelled whisky and put what was intended as the subject it in the name field, fuck.

Will do, got any nice recommendations? Anything similar to the smokey taste of Laphroaig is welcome

Yes, I love all the Laphroaigs.
Really need to try some of the other very peaty whiskys.

Lurk threads like this and spend more than ten bucks on a bottle.
I do actually still buy the cheap shitty ones if I'm just getting drunk. Can't imagine polishing off a bottle of Laphroaig in a night. It's a sipping whisky. You can even add a little water to it if you like.

couldn't go back to the 10 after the 48% quarter cask. I missed that extra 8% too much.

Just bought this. My first bottle of Islay. Havent had it yet, but was a great price in Amazon sale.

>> No.11517868

It's decent but ou should try some Lagavulin next time you are buying a bottle.

>> No.11517895

literally the only whisky I cannot drink.
taste's like TCP, coal tar and elastoplast.
My body actually rejected it and it made me shit my guts out.

I like the other islay whiskies.... but I would paint my fence with Laphroaig as its like creosote

Laphoraig is very good but i prefer Ardbeg and sometimes Octomore

I definitely can't do multiple glasses of Laphroaig but I'll do one to start the night sometimes if my buds are getting out the sipping whisky.

Is Glenkinchie any good? Just found a bottle of their distillers edition and I've never had this brand before so I figured this could be a good opportunity to try something new, but alas; I'm not made of money.

Ardbeg is more campfire and Laphroaig is more medicinal. I like both but I prefer Laphroaig. I do like that the Ardbeg 10 is a bit higher abv and not chill filtered so it's a bit more quality for the price.

>>11519252
I want to like Talisker, but something about it kind of turns me off of it. It's just ok to me.

>>11517649
The 10-year is better and cheaper. Quarter cask is too woody for me, it's nice for mixing it up a little I guess.

I love laphroaig when I want dat s m o k e y flavor, especially now that it’s fall/winter season. I love using it to make a sour with ginger or allspice syrup and amaro for the ultimate fall cocktail; the price point keeps me from feeling too terrible about using a scotch in a cocktail while still keeping it high enough quality to not taste like shit by itself.

>> No.11519430

>>11519418
Lagavulin is way more gentle and refined, unless you're comparing the cask strength lagavulin to the 80 proof laphroaig. Lagavulin is amazing, though, but really pricy.

>> No.11519618

Laphroaig makes some delicious scotch. I like peaty, so I would suggest Triple Wood. By far the best.

But the REAL best is Lagavulin 16. Listen to Ron Swanson, the man knows his scotch.

I used to think I hated whisky in general. I only tried it when my stepdad shared some of his, and it was your most basic bitch whiskeys - probably was more of him having a midlife crisis and trying to be a Real Man rather than liking the stuff - which ALWAYS tasted like someone fermented a fur pelt.

Then I tried Laphroaig.

I can see how even people with non-shit tastes can hate it though, it's a really assertive flavor.

>> No.11520278

If you like the 10, try the Quarter Cask version. Stay away from Select. Also give Ardbeg 10 a go, you will probably like that too. I have far too many bottles of it in my cupboard

>> No.11520281

Seems like a split of opinion on 10 vs QC. Prices are similar - £38 for 10, £42 for QC.

I got the QC for £25 though which is a really good price. Might get the 10 if it goes on sale, but mostly looking out for Ardbeg uigeadail

>> No.11520339

The 10 is almost always down to £28 in tesco or asda. I don't think it is as good as the QC, but it is still nice. Shame it is only 40%

I like the Ardbeg peat, Laphroaig is better for wood and smoke, personally I go for Laphroaig but that's just preference.

Haven't had octomore but Bruichladdich's other whiskies are great, very well balanced.

If you're feeling poor try Bowmore, their young stuff is good for the money and cheaper than the others, at least by me.

Talisker is delicious. I love the brine, so it's one of my favorites.

If you like a little smoke/peat try Springbank. It's from Campeltown so not an Islay, sometimes gets lumped in with the lowlands but it's its own thing. Definitely worth.
