Hey, if we're talking alcohol, I've got an issue I could use some expertise with? I've recently got into mixing my own cocktails at home. I ended up buying a top shelf Sweet Vermouth to make a Negroni with, but it turns out I went too crazy. Here's the stuff I bought.

I used to be in a pretty dark place too and binge drank for days until I ran out of money and had terrible withdrawals with fucking nightmares, basically lucid dreaming and seeing creepy faces in the darkness on my eyelids and I basically a useless vegetable for at least 5 days. Now I've cut way back and sometimes don't even drink for a couple weeks but now whenever I drink almost every single time I get these horrible withdrawals. It feels like alcohol has put an imprint in my brain and now my body and brain has only one way of dealing with it no matter how much or little I drink I just go to the same fucked up place. The worst part is the fucking shakes, sweating and the nightmares I swear to god it makes me feel like the Devil is taking over my body as ridiculous as it sounds.

>I swear to god it makes me feel like the Devil is taking over my body as ridiculous as it sounds.
Not at all. I really felt like a different angry person when I was binge drinking over and over. Like I was possessed and had no choice. Apparently some antidepressants like what I was on can make you crave alcohol. Seems like I have emotional problems with drinking and you the physical

I'm simply explaining why some people would support the policy of not having /alc/ threads. Ultimately it's the mods who decide but I'm saying why I think this is a good policy.

Your reactions are good evidence of why it's a good policy. A normal person would be able to accept a disagreement about what kinds of threads should be around. But you take it as a personal attack because you are so invested in this issue. And that's exactly why it doesn't belong on /ck/. This isn't your support group.

There's also the barrel to consider. You can purchase other boozes and add them to it, allowing you to turn a half-assed whiskey into something more appreciable. That said, it's probably more cost-effective and takes less time to simply purchase a small barrel from Amazon and put cheap whiskey in it. The reason they boast such long barrel-aging times and have such garbage whiskeys for the Jack Daniels label is because they're using massive casks and not waiting long enough. If you use a 1-liter barrel, you can taste the difference in as little as a few days... though, it would be best to wait a few weeks, for maximal effect.

More or less, yes. You get diminishing returns the higher your whiskey's starting quality, obviously. And you'll probably need to bathe the barrel under the tap for a few minutes, once a month, to help it stay at the right level of "swollen," for lack of a better word.

It's just a pretty low-maintenance means of turning garbage like Canadian Mist into something more pleasant to drink.
