have to go to the dentist today lads. the last checkup they showed me how many cavities i had - have to admit i was shocked.

what do you guys do after eating to take care of your mouth? I am going to start flossing way more regularly now but I've always brushed...

Just deal with it you’re never going to have the proper discipline to do it long term.

Limit sugar and brush after meals. Make sure you brush properly too, if your teeth still feel dirty after brushing, do it again. Don't smoke. Don't have too much acidic food.

I have an issue where I always pick at impurities in the skin, nails etc. The one positive about it is that I also compulsively floss. Never had a cavity, dentist always gives me praise when I come in saying he seldom sees such nice enamel on the sides between the teeth.

A propensity for cavities has a genetic component. You might just be unlucky. But either way, I tell all my patients that they should brush after eating. It doesn't have to be right after, do it an hour later or whatever, but just a quick swish of your teeth, removing particles from them and your tongue goes so far in improving dental health.

Also floss once a day, it's good for you. Kthx

If you want to be more hygienic stop eating foods detrimental to your teeth. Not even candy.
Shit like coffee and soda will fuck you up, especially if you brush only every now and then.
You don't have to start flossing like it's going out of fashion, just brush regularly and floss after your meals.

Meh just get replacements.
I had bad genes and my parents didn't care much either.
When I started to care it was way too late. Now almost all of my teeth are artificial.

Use an electric toothbrush, brush twice a day for two minutes each time. I used to floss twice a day too but it still wasn't enough, but then I started using a water pick every night instead and I haven't had a problem since. Cutting sugar out of your diet also helps.

>brushing after every meal
Nobody does this and it's not good for you if you use industrial toothpaste.
>flossing after every meal
That's like a half hour of every day down the toilet. Nobody does this.

The real answer is just a water swish after anything sweet or carb-based. Takes four seconds. You don't even need a glass. If you brush/floss more than twice a day you are hitting extreme diminishing returns and probably hurting yourself.

There's only one thing that gives you cavities, and that's the waste products from bacteria growing there. The bacteria living in your mouth eat sugar, so the more sugar that's around the more waste (acid) will be produced. You can eat as much fucking candy as you want as long as you clean it out by brushing.

tl;dr sugar doesnt hurt your teeth, the bacteria eating it hurt your teeth
