Comfort food, especially comfort food that reminds you of your parents. For me, one of my favorites is potatoes and eggs, my mom would always make this. Basically just fried onions, potatoes, and eggs with seasonings and such. I like to eat mine with ketchup

we're not remotely italian but my parents made pasta fagioli a lot when I was young for some reason. I went to an ancient bar somewhat recently and they made it in the same plebbish outdated way. felt good.

My mom would make what we called "egg menagerie", which was basically a breakfast scramble, or burrito base. It was a base of eggs and potatoes and some sort of meat (bacon, sausage, chorizo, ect) and whatever veggies where needing used up.

Of my parents? Well a pork chop hammered and dry as the Sahara reminds me of my mother. Chicken gumbo reminds me of my father.

What I got from this is that you don't like her cooking all that much.

My dad made the best fucking lemon pepper chicken I've ever had. He was gonna teach me his recipe last month. I never got to learn it.

My mom used to make pumpkin soup. I haven't had it in years because gf can't stand the smell. When I made some for myself a few years ago I had to thoroughly wipe down and ventilate the kitchen after so there was no minuscule trace of pumpkin smell, because even a small amount makes her nauseous. Its not worth that much effort.

I love a big hot bowl of pho on cold blustery days like today. Warms the body, warms the soul.

I also like, but without the tripe. Mexicans make tripe delicious, vietnamese tripe in pho is just chewy and unpleasant. IMO

Hmm...could be the tripe. But i find its much more tender than what ive had in pho.

Also, try a tripe taco at a mexican taco joint. They cook it up till its crispy and reminds me of bacon

Spent most of my childhood with my father, not the best financial status. We always ate those nasty Double charbroils from the gas stations. I eat them now and cant help but love the taste and feel comfortable when I eat them. R.I.P dumb fat dad.

Before my mom died it was shepherds pie. Really it was cottters pie cause she used beef, but fuck... so good. I miss it as no one has ever made it like she did. Same thing with pineapple upside down cake. Every birthday, those two foods.

I've had them since... always reminds me. Never as good. Thats life though.

Same thing. Whatever whiskey and beer you are drinking is not only delicious to you, but also associated with previous good times.

Its mentally comforting just to enjoy such a food or drink.
