Not a huge rice fan.

I just soak them over night, change put the water, then boil them. They have a firmer texture than canned beans because the retort cooking process subjects the cans to heat and pressure for >1.5 hrs (generally), then there's a ton of heat retention due to the mass of cans being cooked. I used to feel the same way, but now I think canned beans are just kinda mushy.
