Modern Chinese apartments OFTEN use only induction cookers so nearly all modern Chinese woks are flat bottomed, even older woks are still slightly flat bottomed, it's just a smaller flat bit. It's not considered a different pan here and it's used exactly the same way. The flat bottom is relatively small, though bigger than the woks that you remember from years ago.

I wasn't here for that talk but he sounds correct to me, I wouldn't have called it anything other than a wok. I suppose you could call it a big bottomed wok or something. In Chinese, all woks and pans just called "frying pot", Chiense doesn't have so many words for specific types of pots.

Let me rephrase it then. Chopsticks aren't some strange contraption to an Asian baby. They see them being used since birth. Manual dexterity doesn't exist until early childhood, so, yes, babies aren't eating with chopsticks, but everyone around them is. That's the "nurture" in the "nature vs. nurture" argument.

Compare that with someone trying to learn a skill that isn't universal in their culture, and you have apples and oranges.
