im gonna top up my rum selection soon, what rum should i consider?

right now im thinking chairmans reserve for the good stuff and maybe a bottle of morgan to pad it out a bit when i wanna get wasted. dont wanna blow crazy money, but ive tried mount gay before and not liked it, and pampero aniversairo doesnt exactly justify the near double price compared to the chairman.

Sailor jerry is cheaper and stronger than capn and you should always have some dark rum like Meyers on hand for cocktails especially around the holidays since it makes the best hard warm punch

Like rum? But it's quite strong so a little will go a long way. Try mixing a measure with a measure of water, makes it a long drink or add some orange juice. Oh the rum and water mix 1:2 is known as grog and was given to sailors in the British royal navy every day for 100 or so years.

Sorry being flippant. I think it's too strong to taste, but diluting with water helps. Try Pussers Rum website for tasters notes. I pay £31 for a bottle which I get from a museum 10 miles from home, it has a large Nelson section.

Rum sucks, I like the concept of rum on paper but it tastes like shit. If you're going to go for it though get the expensive shit like Appleton Estate and make sure it's spiced and not black or clear.

I've always been happy enough with Mount Gay as a standard, and Oakheart/Cpt. Morgans Spiced for for mixing, so I haven't had the motivation to branch out. Been thinking of getting some fancier stuff recently.

There's a small place in the north of England called Alnwick which has a small distillery, make some very nice stuff. Expensive though.

If you're looking for something a bit different, try Wester rum. Made in Scotland and it's very good.

If you're in the UK and want spiced rum, then this is what i suggest. Available in Sainsburys. It's better than any other spiced rum I've tried. Check the reviews on masterofmalt or amazon - very highly rated.

My recommendation for non-spiced is Ron Zacapa Solera 23

Appleton rum
Went on honey moon to sandals in negril,Jamaica. They only had appleton. I was very wtf at first. Now it's the main rum I buy. It's very smooth and mid tier price

Agree Ron Zacapa is the best for the money. They have cheap and upper tier but if you are looking to get into a good sipping rum just throw a little ice down. Depending on where you live they rang from 20-50 for a good to great bottles

Probably was less shit before they moved the factory. It's OK if you're mixing it IMO. In the sub-20 dollar range, stay away from the Oakheart and stick with the Gold. The 4 year is not bad, comparable quality-wise with Sailor Jerry and Cap Mo. haven't tried anything above that.

Mt Gay are all pretty decent
Their XO is not the best but it's very well priced
Black Barrel and Eclipse are sippable
If you want to go high end rum that is still reasonable get a Ron Zacapa XO or Plantation 20
If you want a very decent silver, get a plantation 3 stars
I have never touched Captain Morgan and Bacardi at all, maybe i've been given a few liquor mixed with it but i'll never order it purposely
also Sailor Jerry is better than Kraken
