At high temperature settings on a stovetop, teflon breaks down and releases fluorocarbon gasses which are deadly to birds and any other small animal with rapid breathing.
If for some reason you stick teflon pans in an even higher temperature oven it will break down even more and be toxic to humans.

Also say what you will about Alex Jones, the gay frogs meme is true: estrogen pollution in water from home birth control and hospital runoff is messing up the delicate hormonal systems of frogs and fish. It's not making them homosexual, but it is causing aberrations in their physical sexual development and harming their reproductive cycles.

Never understood cast iron pans.
Yes you can season them or just buy a pan that does the job without first fixing the pan.
They have a place but that's only in a few percent of all dishes.

You aren't fixing a car with tools from 1930 either just because it makes you feel better about yourself.

Anon, its not an all purpose pan. But it has characteristics that are useful. It also lasts forever. For me, Stainless Steel is underrated since it is truly the all purpose, near indestructible pan, but its tricky to use and not as restorable. You dont own just one pan, one of them could be cast iron. Great for baking, btw. Looking at you, op. >>11401454

i've had it for a few years now, but i obviously fucked the first seasoning attempt i did
i assume it was an insufficient number of seasoning repetitions

how do i do a complete derusting and season perfectly? i've heard that a vinegar soak is best for stubborn rust

Oven cleaner and steel wool. Clean with oil. Once oiled, keep oiled so no flash rust. Rub it all over, stick in oven to season. An hour on 400°f does the trick with most oils. I recommend grapeseed oil. Once you rub the oil on, rub it off to make it a thin a layer as possible, there will always be some on it no matter how much you rub.
