Anyone have reviews on any off brands? I recently tried 3 different types of Goya sardines all of which were absolutely abhorrent for the price I paid. and even if they were cheap they would not be one of the first ones I grabbed. on the other hand my favorite so far has been seasons brand in oil. I went to an Asian market for the first time after falling in love with deenz and tinned fish in general. They have a pretty interesting selection but they pack a ton of shit in the cans like MSG.

I think my favorite is Brisling packed in olive oil. Just eat em straight out of the can. They also are fantastic mixed up into a spread with mayo, lemon, onion, and capers. I'll go for the lightly smoked larger variety.

On the topic of other tinned fish, my local Aldi had mango pepper herring and curry pineapple herring, I mixed the curry pineapple herring up with some cottage cheese, let me tell you that it was an absolutely forbidden combo.

I have a large tin of sardines in tomato sauce (14oz), thinking of cooking it up in pasta or making a casserole. I seriously just eat them plain or with crackers 98% of the time tho.

Will do! The sardines in sweet sauce were pretty good (stuff in the top of the picture). LOVED the roasted eel, that's one of my favorite fish to get at a sushi restaurant so I'm not surprised. The tuna in kimchi sauce was okay, and the Titus sardines in oil weren't the best quality, plus they were in Soybean oil.. I'm excited to try the pacific saury and the mackerel. I'll probably post about those when the new thread comes around.

Yes, The Brisling sardines are the best I've had aside from King Oscar, love the packaging, the FT branded sardines are solid. The eel is fantastic. Skipjack and Yellowfin fuck hard, I'm also a fan of tongol. Haven't had canned oysters before, I'm working up the courage. >remove from tin (carefully)
>cut straight down line where the black scales meet silver scales
>fold open
>remove spine
that's the only preparation I do. some people like the spines, i've tried them, they make me cough and are an unpleasant texture. sometimes i mash sardines with a fork and scoop it onto crackers, sometimes on bread with hotsauce and mustard

My favorite store has stopped selling my favorite deenz for some reason. Probably out of stock, but it's been that way for 2 months now and I'm worried. I've tried other brands, but they suck. Switched to herring for now, but I'm not happy.

I quite enjoyed these on top of crackers. Good quality fish and just a hint of spice.
