Poke is great, just not necessarily for the fish. I always load up on the veggies/toppings. Seaweed salad, ginger, sweet onion, cucumbers, masago, imitation crab, pineapple.

Honestly it doesnt even need the fish. Ahi is just overpriced flavorless protein anyway.

I think I ate some kind of poke dish when I was in Manhattan a few years ago. I couldn't tell exactly what it was because the restaurant was so dark, but I think it was a pile of raw tuna, mango, some other plant foods and spices held together with raw egg yolk. It had a fine flavor but at the same time the texture and sheer amount of raw foods was a lot for me to handle at once. I was a complete newb to raw fish at the time, I was 16. Poke still kind of weirds me out because eating that much raw fish in one bite feels wrong. I love sushi, but poke is like too much of a good thing at once.
