I don't think it's overrated by the people who like it, but I'll tell you why I don't like it! First, I don't really like mint. Menthol numbs your taste to other flavors, and I don't like the lingering effect on cold-sensors. Ice cream is already cold. I also don't like chunks of cold chocolate in ice cream. I really like chocolate, but you just can't taste it well when it doesn't melt. This gives you the choice of chewing up flavorless pieces of waxy-textured things or eating it so slowly that you might as well just drink melted ice cream. Terrible combos all around. The only people I've met irl who loved it had abrasive, persnickety personalities.

I used to be able to buy mint ice cream without the fucking chocolate chips, but them all the local stores stopped carrying it.
Sometimes around christmas, you can find peppermint swirl ice cream that has finely ground candy cane mixed in, but availability is spotty.
