I don't know why you'd sacrifice a NY strip steak when cheese does more than enough to make eggplant delicious.

I get it. But It isn't respecting a nice ingredient. That's my only issue. Seasoned ground beef could have taken the same role, which would have been more fitting.

I feel like using ingredients the way you want (assuming you're not a faggot who cooks things wrong on purpose just to post it on /ck/) then you "respected" it plenty.
Plus it's just a steak who cares.

Why do Redditors try to fit in so much?

>> No.11350541

"looks" ok, I'd definitely try if it were in front of me, but not fundamentally that interesting or exciting. my main question is why? not that food needs a reason, but it just feels like a strange mix of ingredients, like what are the peppers even adding, do you really need mushrooms in there with the steak and eggplant, and I dunno, eggplant with cheese seems kinda random, and there's meat on top of that for no real reason. overall, you could take half of the ingredients used in this dish and make something better and less...goofy
fundamentally, I'm also concerned about the texture of eggplant vs steak in the same bite; the flavors don't seem like a natural fit either but of course those are just two parts and not the sum.

i guess eggplant and cheese is a thing now that I think about it; eggplant parm obvs (which again leads me to: who needs steak or peppers in their his parm?), as well as mediterranean

Perhaps. But the point of a steak is that it's one of the few cuts of meat that can just be cooked simply and served on its own. Lesser cuts require more elaborate prep. Kind of a waste to get all elaborate with a cut that can stand on its own when a lesser cut would do. That was my point.

I can guarantee you that you can make a superior dish using expensive marinated tenderloin and this dish would be fantastic tasting. The presentation would need a bit of work in my opinion but I’d eat the hell out of it.
You may see it as a waste because you see a steak as a valuable item to be consumed alone. Many people who work in fine dining or just very expensive dining will tell you that cuts that normally become steaks are used for all sorts of purposes outside of grilling and serving.
Plus, tenderness is not everything when it comes to grilled steaks. Some of the sub muscles in the chuck make fantastic steaks. Think outside the box

crispy bacon or pancetta lardons would have been an infinitely better choice.

also pine nuts or maybe toasted almonds or something would have been nice texturally. i fear that the mushroom/eggplant/steak textural combo is something you wouldn't want to eat multiple bites of.
