OP, what you want is a candy that is both mildly unappealing and lasts a significant time in the mouth(because you don't want to be constantly refilling your jar). To that end, Wal-Mart sells bulk jars of Atomic Fireballs for cheap. That's my recommendation. The bonus is that the spiciness of the candy will help sort out the sugar fiends from the people who will just help themselves to one or two.

Why do you want the candy jar? Stop and talk or don't talk very long? Foodie scarcity stuff? Seasonal stuff makes people happy? Fresher breath? Your generosity and popularity, ie expensive?

I am a teacher and I bribe my students with Japanese candies not easily bought by my kids who have no job or credit cards. From amazon in bulk, I love the very authentic tropical fruit flavors of hard candies and gummies both, from Kasugai, in flavors like lychee, yuzu, honeydew, muscadine grape, green mango. Japan in general has their candies very nicely individually sealed and clean looking for office phobes on the germs angle. Milkita makes a delicious" honeydew shake" chewy candy that tastes like pure sweetened condensed milk that latinos will adore.

Italian hard candies can be super gourmet, esp from Perugina . Perugina Rossana tastes like pure eggnog. Spicchi Sorrento is the tart and fresh delicious different citrus fruits. Limoncello flavor too.

There are some amazing coffee flavored candies too. Nips are ultra cheap.

Put nothing but candies with nuts in them, to really fuck the peanut allergy fuckers. I used to put out a jar of hot tamales in the office every day and they would vanish immediately. Then I found out that a couple of the people I hated were allergic to peanuts and they were scarfing down all the hot tamales because they were fat pigs. Then I started putting out PayDay bars and Snickers. They lasted the whole day. True story.

2 types of both a soft and hard variety. I prefer soft and hard fruity flavored candies like Starburst and Jolly Ranchers, for example; and then a soft and hard caramel and/or chocolate like Werthers and Tootsie.
