Getting snowed in, what are some good foods for being snowed in?

I wish I could get snowed in in October. Or at all. GA woes.

Thai soups. Or anything made with fresh red peppers. Eat the peppers, of course.

Minnesotans are experts on "snowed in food". They came up with something called, "Hot Dish", which is just basically everything but the kitchen sink baked in a glass dish with cheese and tater tots on top.

OR, get a crock pot, throw a whole chicken in with a scoop of rice and a can of cream of mushroom and a can of cream of chicken. This is called, "Grandma chicken" and it's delicious. (Toss in mushrooms onions and carrots for bonus points.) Let it cook all day and by the time dinner rolls around, you're up to your elbows in snow and good hot food.

I also suggest getting a pork shoulder roast (Picnic roast, in some parts of America) and throwing that into a glass baking dish with a bunch of potatoes, carrots onions and seasonings and baking it for about an hour, then switching it over to broil to give the fatty skin layer thick crispy crunch. (Home made pork skins.) The meat should come out tender and fall apart when you try to cut it. Serve with the veggies and a slice of buttered bread to soak up all the juices.

These meals freeze well so that you can obviously have several days worth of food in case you get REALLY snowed in.

Well, a few logs, colored sparks timed logs are nice, ya know, for the fireplace and romance while you sip your wine, after dinner coffee or spiced cider, or queue up a movie and popcorn.

For just comfy winter treats, I like to have a couple keep-fresh containers of freshly baked brownies, cookies, fresh baked bread, candy or fudge, you know something craveworthy. Some pantry staples would be some popcorn and toppings, fixins for chex mix, mixed nuts to spice. Caramel apples are nice from microwave to done very fast. One bowl brownie fixings. Or an awesome vanilla ice cream to top a mug of cold root beer, or serve alongside a fresh apple crumble.

Homey good casseroles to pull out like enchiladas, meafloaf, stuffed shells, or a sheet pan dinner idea, roasty and crisp texture with lots of flavors. If you're bored as hell, fussy foods high prep foods are nice, complicated assembly stuff like stuffing some wontons or spring rolls. Prep like a big tray of crudite really to gnosh on and excuse to have dip like baked spinach artichoke. Can some pickles. Assorted pizza fillings to add to ricotta and stuff in some thawed pizza dough for calzones. Crock pots can be set at bedtime to warm up some pinhead oatmeal. All day simmered beef stew, homemade herb biscuits.

Also, on the topic of Egyptian winter food, try Belilah. It's buckwheat boiled with water. You basically make a huge pot to last you a week. You boil it in milk till it's soft first day and then bring it to a boil every night to keep it from spoiling.

You won't need to refrigerate it or anything, and the dish changes every day. It starts off very nutty from the buckwheat, with a strong texture as you bite into each grain. As the week goes on, it starts becoming more creamy and thick, becoming like a pudding by the end. Really really good.

Also, any kind of lentil soup is also good.
