I had Alsatian food in a shitty brasserie in the 12e a couple of weeks ago, does that count? It wasn't good, but the closer to germany you get, the "wurst" the food is. I don't mean to offend, but German food and "good" don't really go in the same sentence. Their crippling fear of vegetables is a major handicap. Even Filipino food is better

When I'm outside Indy they're the only places that I can get a pork tenderloin sandwich.

It's pretty much the only reason to go to Aldi this month, the german goodies :P

I actually cook german food at home at least once a month, I just like the tangy kraut or red cabbage with pork products like that. I often simmer bone-in chops in drained kraut in onions, with a little beer or wine for a while, til the marrow and fat renders out, and makes the kraut sticky golden browned and good. I like old fashioned mashed from scratch, some fresh cucumber salad or pickles with it.

Aldi has 4 types of okoberfest sausages right now, pretzels frozen, pretzel rolls, spaetzle mixes, 3 kinds of mustard, red cabbage in the jar, frozen breaded veal cutlets and pork schnitzel, butterkase, herbed gherkins, thin dark rye, speckuloos, german chocolate frozen cakes, sugared almonds in a cone, and some other "fest" goodies. Gluhwine, and stollen bites are making some pre-holiday appearances now too. Can't wait for the chocolate dipped gingerbread on the way!

I make this meal periodically since I make my own kraut and sausages. Don't have a pic but made it the other day using a smoked pork hock instead of sausage. Real rib sticking food.

I don't think I'm brave enough to make my own kraut, but I certainly would if good stuff wasn't accessible where I lived, of course. I typically like the krisper fresher kind, and I doctor mine up with some onion, butter, caraway, maybe some nice wine or beer when I'm adding it to the pan where I already cooked my sausages or pork.
