The electric kettle allows me to focus on the grinding and prepping everything else. I haven't timed myself, but I can't imagine it takes more than ten minutes including clean up. I'm usually not rushing in the morning, so it's not an issue for me.

I stopped drinking coffee 10 months ago and feel great now.
First week was the hardest, I was missing the smell and the taste of freshly brewed coffee, but now I'm so happy that quit and that I don't drink that shit anymore.
The worst is dark roasted coffee.
Dark roasted coffee is carcinogenic and will give you cancer because the green coffee beans were heat it up to such hight temperatures
that the high heat burnt everything inside and turned that coffee bean into cancer causing powerhouse.
Same as eating charred meat or bread. Cancer guaranteed.

After cotton coffee is the most chemically treated crop on the Planet.
Organic coffees are rare, and not all labels that say 100% ORGANIC are honest.
Be aware of scammers. Coffee mongers are worst than the used car salesman. They lie looking you straight in the eyes.

Take a look at the picture and I'm sure you will not buy this burnt bread and consume it, so why you buy burnt (dark roast coffee) and consume it ?
Ask yourself this question if you have any brains.
Dark roast coffee equals cancer. But the coffee merchants will not tell you that, it's a deep coffee industry dark ugly secret.

>Why would you make such a suggestion without expanding on it? You don't know the answer and want to make vague unsubstantiated claims?
I was waiting for post like yours.
I was waiting for someone like you who will ask that question, who will have the curiosity to know the reason of that evil deceptive dishonest practice by The BIG COFFEE.
Here is the reason.
As you know there are two types of coffee beans, Robusta and Arabica.
Arabica being sold for double the price on the coffee stock markets, being superior in taste.
But even in Arabica there are grades of quality.

Now to the roasting scam.
Every reputable coffee expert agrees that medium roast is the maximum roast level where you get the best coffee tastes and flavors before you start killing
everything that is alive in the coffee bean. Same as with burning bread or meat till it becomes charred as the dark roast coffee is.
So the big question is why do the coffee roasting houses roast green coffee beans to the dark roast level if medium roasted coffee beans give much better fuller truer tastes.
Here is the genius of evil marketing.
Lower grade Robusta and higher grade Arabica have levels of higher and lover quality of their beans. As with all commodities.
If you roast lower grade Robusta or Arabica coffee beans to the medium roast they will taste like shit, because they are low quality beans regardless of the type.

So the evil coffee merchants came up with the concept of burning, dark roasting the low quality coffee beans and "creating" this illusion of 'strong coffee' taste, and
selling this substandard dark roast coffee at the same price as the medium roast coffees, and remember that only high quality green coffee beans are used for medium roast coffee.

So here is the dark evil secret of the BIG COFFEE.
If you have functioning brain you will understand this, but if you think that McDonalds and other burger joints are serving you healthy meat you will attack my post.

Been messing around with a Moka pot for a while, mostly with mixed results. It keeps coming out real bitter most of the time. I make sure to pre-boil the water, then put it on a relatively low heat on the stove, but it seems to come out at such a small trickle, so I wonder if I need more heat. Then again maybe the heat I have is what's causing the poor flavor. Maybe I'm not cleaning it well enough?

The past few times I've tried using it, it hasn't really gurgled. It sorta just trickles out dark and then a bit lighter, at which point I do turn it off. But I've usually wound up with leftover water when that happens. Maybe it's the grounds? Past few times I've used it, it was with grounds that seemed finer than what I used before. I dunno.

use a small pan that you can completely fill in beans, otherwise they will only heat on their contact spot. to be honest the sky is the limit from then on, you can go slow or fast, scorch or make them yellow. They are selling pounds for $20 which is what I would pay for specialty grade arabica, and even then that's a little much unless it is a little bit rarer. Learn to read through marketing, good coffee companies include the following info, by relevance:
>roast date
>origin (including city or farm)
>varietal
>roast level
>tasting notes (more specific than "bold" or "fruit notes")
Description should focus on why the coffee was selected by the roaster or more information on the farmers and not a paragraph or two on how "bold" and "strong" it is.

Just wash it like you'd wash any other pot, if you can wash dishes then it will be fine.

The filter part needs a little extra flushing with water under the tap but nothing crazy, just make sure that some water actually flows through it for a second, that will remove anything left over in there.

>>11310640
I only thought about this while I was making my own mokka this morning but are you filling the filter with coffee? Most mokka pots are 6 shots which means if you just fill it up with coffee and drink it, it's going to be 6x as strong as say, a cup of drip-filter pot coffee which is basically 1xshot + hot water per cup. The one in your pic is 12x.
My wife made me some coffee one morning and did this because she doesn't drink it herself and figured it was supposed to taste that bitter.

Make sure you're measuring the right amount of coffee for the pot. Water is less important because it's basically the same as adding hot water to it afterwards for an american/long-black. Also mokka pots don't work well with low water levels.

Coffee is a much healthier thing to drink than alcohol.
>Not that I don't drink both.
This is debateable.
There are studies that show that people who drink live longer than people who don’t, and this includes people who drink heavily, although they don’t live as long as people who drink in moderation.
As far as coffee goes, unlike alcoholic beverages, in Europe coffee consumption really only goes back a few hundred years, whereas alcohol consumption goes back thousands.
Over thousands of years, humans can build up a tolerance for alcohol.
Coffee is relatively new for people of Ruropean decent, so will limely not be as well processed by the body.

>Coffee is relatively new for people of Ruropean decent, so will limely not be as well processed by the body.
Those two things aren't necessarily causally related.
Just because it's new to us (in evolutionary terms, which is completely correct) doesn't mean that we can't metabolise it well.
In fact we don't metabolise it 'well' because the metabolites are what give it the psychoactive properties we desire, if it was well processed by the body then it would be converted to base nutrients (amino acids and sugars mostly) and used for cellular energy, protein manufacture and waste that would be eliminated via kidneys without affecting our brain.

But, the native South American population that have consumed it for presumably quite some time, found that they could consume it safely and to advantage, so they preferentially cultivated and harvested it instead of labeling it poison and eliminating it from their farmland. Same as tea in China.
In both cases, they didn't evolve to consume the plant, they found a plant that they could (by random chance) consume and then cultivated it. Since they have the same base biology as the rest of the human race, this applies to us as well.

It's not really evolution that's at work here, it's plant husbandry/cultivation and a selection effect based on farmers destroying unsafe/ineffective coffee-alternatives because they're considered useless/dangerous weeds instead of valuable crops.

Seem to be somewhat more shock resistant. The stone mortar and pestle display models I’ve seen at stores are routinely chipped towards the top, and the pestles are sometimes broken. I’ve seen broken ceramic mortar and pestles, but in far lower quantities.
Milton Brook and Wedgewood both make nice ceramic mortar and pestles.

I’m not familiar with that maker, but pour over coffee does seem to taste better, and paper filters can remove certain compounds from the coffee that may be toxic. The paper filters also make the coffee less gritty.
If I have a reservation sbout that, it’s the hot plate for the coffee.
A double walled glass pitcher would be better, but I don’t know of one that would fit.

Caffeine can exacerbate anxiety. Being wired will be bad for many people.
Large quantities of alcohol will have similar and potentially worse problems though.
People don't generally drink themselves to death on coffee but we know that it's easy to do on alcohol.

You're really just saying that moderation is a good idea since moderate intake of coffee isn't causing problems for you and moderate amounts of alcohol are relaxing and comforting. I really don't disagree with any of that and neither will many other people barring a few straight-edge types.

An aunt bought a coffee farm in Costa Rica so I get about 60lbs of green coffee every year. I've been roasting it at home. It sounds and feels very pretentious but it's some of the best coffee I've ever had.

They retired and decided to buy a bunch of land in Costa Rica instead of retiring in the US. The coffee isn't all perfectly uniform like professional operations but it's all hand picked and dried. I bought a behmor 1600 after the first batch was taking too long to roast in an air popper.

Now that I have the roast times down, the coffee is great. I've ruined a bunch of coffee to get there though.

At just past the medium roast point, about 30 seconds past first crack on my roaster, it has a stronger chocolate flavor. It's earthy and fairly acidic but not a really intense flavor. I brew through a chemex and I think those filters remove a lot of the acidity (and possibly flavor).

I have it and I love it. I've owned numerous drip machines, and I would say this is by far the best. One of my primary complaints with my previous machines was that the dripping mechanism would concentrate in certain areas of the filter. The moccamaster's drip is from what I can tell is completely uniform, none of your ground beans will go to waste.

This machine coupled with a good grinder will produce fantastic coffee.

Any of you guys ordered coffee beans online? I'm gonna buy some off Amazon because I forgot to buy them at the store today and it's a 40minute walk both ways so I'm not going again for a while. Do you guys have any recommendation for brand or flavor I should try? Also I noticed only some of them have the option to get pre-ground (I don't have a grinder at home) but how do you tell what size it's ground to?

Are they growing Arabica, Robusta or both?
They should really do both so that they can make their own blend to sell.

>Everything I looked into made it seem like I should be, so yeah. Should I not be?
You should reread the post you replied to but tl:dr for you lazy faggot, no. Not unless you're making 6 shots of espresso, or 12, whatever your pot does.

Every other coffee maker requires measuring coffee for the number/strength you want the coffee to be, this does too. If you fill the filter with coffee and our it into a single cup, it's going to be insanely strong and bitter.

It's all whatever has smaller beans. I think they looked into growing different types but decided not to.
