Detroit style pizza is a very American concept. I wish it was more popular. Everyone has a boner for flat, wood fired stuff which is fine, but very old world.

Detroit style was developed by immigrants, supposedly using mechanical parts trays from factories, and presumably baked in mass produced ovens fueled by refined gas in the industrial age.

The neopolitan style is what great great grandma made in the old country on her handmade, one of a kind stone oven. This isn't a bad thing at all. I just like story behind the former style a little bit more.

I've been to Chicago, New York, Detroit, and some other cities. Detroit style pizza is the best pizza I've had. The only thing that comes close is Neapolitan style. But, since that's not "American" I don't want to include it in the rankings since it isn't fair. Out of the pizza styles invented in the US, Detroit really is the best. 'go'za fags and thin crust obsessed new yorkers dont know what they're missing.

you also have to have the right kind of pan and cheese though or else it just tastes like a bad sheet pizza. it needs legit brick cheese and thats hard to find outside the midwest

Imagine being so backwards you make a pizza square instead of the proper round shape. 80 years of Democrat leadership leads to this. Detroit is unsalvageable.

Pizza should be round. That's how it's been since the Romans invented it in the year -47 BC. Changing the shape of pizza now is stupid, just as stupid as changing BC to BCE for dates. If the Current Era began when Christ was born, what's the point of not saying Before Christ? Just say BC, make your pizza square, and be a normal person.

grandma pie = pizza baked in a pizza tray, doesnt matter how
detroit pie =sauce on top of cheese, cheese covering the edges, usually uses a blend of brick cheese and white cheddar

im not sure about the differences in dough desu. so a detroit is a grandma pie but its also more specific than that

friendly reminder that pizza is any food you serve on a plate, as long as that plate is made of bread. any shape, toppings, or other specifications are purely arbitrary and in no way determine the quality of the eating experience independent of the two principles aforementioned.

there's this place in Seattle called Windy City Pie and they make a round deepdish 'za which they're obviously alluding to as a 'go 'za but it has the crispy cheese edges like the 'troit 'za. I would highly recommend it to any other Seattle anons

Detroit style can get more specific than this, but the general thing is that it doesn't even have a "crust". Grandma pizza is just a square pizza, Detroit style is also square but the number one defining feature is that it has cheese covering the entire surface of the pie and is baked in a deep metal pan, usually with oil, so that the "crust" achieved is crispy crunchy and cheese coated
