When you get out of high school you'll start to like it. Beer is great, if youre drinking "skunk" beer you probably don't have a good beer, but when you're that young and can only get your hands on Coors light it sucks. A good beer tastes good and you can drink a lot of it without blacking out. Although binge drinking is popular amongst high schoolers.

>> No.11270666

Beer can taste like anything. No alcohol has as wide a range of possible flavor as beer. Even with liqueurs you're stuck with something extremely sweet just to move toward other flavors, and infused vodkas can get certain fruits in but it's either again syrupy or tastes like cough medicine. Beer can taste like bitter chocolate, sweet coffee, banana and clove, it can taste tart and salty or smooth and mellow... You can even take an ale brewed with raspberries and through different additives or yeasts or techniques make a score of raspberry ales that can run the gamut from sweet, tart, sour, bitter, smooth and mellow, you could have darker ales like porters or stouts that are deep and roasty that have a good raspberry finish.

Not only that but you can custom tailor the strength of your beer too. You can make it weak so that you can drink it while only getting a little buzzed and you can make it strong so take your time with it and sip it the way you would a mixed drink or wine. Give it a chance anon, not every beer is for everyone but you would certainly find something you like to drink.

Try a saison. Delicious farmhouse ales, they're really fine beers with a rustic heritage. You can smell the hay. Besides that, try some Trappist ales. They'll have a little hexagon on the label, to indicate they were made by Trappist monks. Those are all generally good. Also of course you have to sample Chimay blue label. If you can find it, try Fuller's London Pride. If you can't, Boddington's.

Otherwise just go wild on domestics. Coors Banquet is the beer's beer. Lone Star is good too. Avoid PBR and Michelob. Avoid mexican beers. Drink responsibly anon.

And don't start drinking liquor. I was on that shit for ten years and did me zero favors.

>Alcohol has been present throughout most of human history
It's been present throughout non-human animal history too. Because it's literally just what happens when different things are left alone to rot / ferment. And in terms of European history where it's been a central and very popular drug, there haven't been many good alternatives prior to modern times:
>M2: Would it be fair to say that the biochemical matrix in which any human culture swims is shiftable by ideas, by ingestibles - food or drugs - and that there is a shifting center?
>TM: Yeah, and it's not randomly driven. A lot of this stuff is dictated by the vicissitudes of botany. The fact that the European continent was so poor in boundary-dissolving hallucinogens allowed the phonetic alphabet and the city-building kingship style to never really be challenged [except in 1600, 1789, 1848, 1918, 1991?-Z].
