Are food best before and expiry dates memes? I got spaghetti bolognaise from last sunday and cooked lamb sausages from the day after and the internet would have me believe that they were bad within three or four days! Can i really not reheat this shit for dinner tonight?

I find most cooked food to stay good for 7-10 days. Never had any issues. As long as your refrigerator works properly and you don't have immune system problems, the 3-4 day rule is a bit overstated. Especially with something like a meat sauce if it has tomato, the acidity will help keep it fresh.

Does it have mold or strange colors on it? No? Does it smell okay? Yes? It's probably fine.

Food deteriorates over time. Dates are approximations of when the packager feels the food will no longer be top-quality. It is a guide. If it still looks ok, doesn't stink, has no obvious issues, and has been stored appropriately, it's likely fine.

Nb: same is true of most npn-refrigerated medicines. Pills are basically good forever.
