Would /ck/ be interested if I started writing a sticky? I'd just be writing it in a pastebin I don't want to manage a wiki but someone else could paste the info there. Since a lot of things would need to be explained with video I would scout good ones and link them where appropriate. I'm thinking it would start with:

>intro
>good foundation for proper knife work
>common techniques (sautee, sear, etc) and where they can be applied
>how to shop (where quality matters and where it doesn't)
>cookware (listed in order: crucial, essential, periphery, specialist)
>choosing a good restaurant/avoiding bad ones
>hygiene

So in the beginning would largely be focused on educating the virgin cooklet and getting them into it but could expand to more involved things later (for example cookware section would expand to discuss differences in pan types/knife types etc). Would add sections for dessert, spices, etc etc later as well.

y/n?

Yes I was toying with this idea, alas I'm a grad student and I have no time to devote to writing and creating a sticky, just the occasional quick shitpost or explain a concept.

I'm down to contribute or proofread/edit however.

I think we should also add suggestions for cheap meals, cheap cuts of meat, cheap staples to mitigate the biweekly "what are some cheap foods" threads.

Lastly, we should have anon submit their recipes for whatever the fuck they want, and catalog that as well.

I know I know, lots of stuff but again I'd be more than happy to edit/proofread in my downtime.

By doing this, all we'd have to worry about are the /pol/tards and McShills shitting up the board

I'd appreciate a sticky such that the abundance of food threads / marketing meme threads is balanced with actual threads with questions concerning cooking. I think all those points are very good. An addition I would suggest would be cooking for cheap, since tons of people on /ck/ and /fit/ make threads about being able to cook on the cheap. I'd be more than happy to help out in some way, since I do want to see a better /ck/.

Let me? Your desire for control is as perverse as it is pointless. And that's what this is really about, it was never about the cooking, it was about control. This place doesn't need a sticky, it needs a manifesto.

Well I mean rules are good for people who don't know what to do. If you're an experienced cook or chef you won't find the sticky as useful, it would just have information that you can use or not and ofc it would be open to criticism.
Since the reception is pretty mixed, I'll write up some draft by this time next week and you can guys can get a better idea of what sort of advice a sticky would give. And yeah I planned to weave discussion on cheap food into it as I go, not sure if I can give it's own section but I'll see.

Fuck you nigger faggot, we don't want your reddit tier stickies. message boards are meant for messages, not to be your fucking wiki. /ck/ is not, and should not be mistaken for expert advice. it doesn't matter if you write a tutorial or a buying guide. enthusiast still equals amatuer.

I like this idea. However, it has been around ever since this board existed and you should take precautions to not end up like all the other anons before you who had the same idea. Stickies can only be made by mods so you have to find a convincing way to make them sticky and lock your thread. Spamming the same thread every day might work, it could also very well get you banned. I don't know which other ways there are, but you should really come up with a plan.

If you make a sticky, make a wiki as well. Your first "definite guide" will need to be reworked at some time, and it is best to do that within a wiki instead of trying to replace the sticky. Another great thing is that more than one person can contribute, so you don't have to do all the work entirely yourself. And that's great because maintaining a decent wiki takes both time and effort.

If you don't want to go this entire way, I'd say don't even bother. With the current state this board is in, you would also do god's work by posting regular recipe or info threads. If you're experienced, a cook-along would also be good.

>TL;DR this idea is as old as /ck/. Put in some decent effort or don't bother.

>> No.11227215

Yeah I guess you're right, I'll lower my ambition to simply creating something you can drop in "how do cook??" "just moved out" "poorfag here" threads with a sage.

Sometimes, I really wish mods were more active these days. Mods aren't valueable contributers and valueable contributers aren't mods, it's a shame. I'd love to do it but it's hard enough to even become a janitor. /ck/ has way too many fast food threads or shitposting and not enough actual cooking. Even on other boards like /g/ or /fit/, where there are stickies but they are horribly outdated.
