In 2001 you consumed negligible small, unmeasurable amounts of palm oil.
In 2018 you consume an average of 16 lbs. a year.
What does 16 lbs. of a product consumed every year year after year for 20 years do the human body?

I know why they're using it. Cost and nutrition labels. It's cheaper, puts longer shelf life on their products, easier to bleach and deodorize, and most importantly- gets around the traditional methods of tracking saturated and unsaturated fats on nutrition labels while replacing them. Those are series of unique features which are very unlike the foods we typically consume. When your food becomes less food like, you *should* be concerned, when your food begins to use ingredients unlike anything mankind has consumed before, you *should* be asking questions- for you *are* what you eat.
So does it cause cancer? I don't know. I'm smart person and cancer is extremely complex and I will not make that claim. Fearmongering is not my business, maybe palm oil is the secret to immortality, I'm a smart person and understand the plethora of complex interactions and potential threats around us in our daily lives and how it is impossible for the individual to be concerned with all of them.
But until the FDA goes back to its draconian style protectionism in which it once WOULD have shut down Palm Oil, I'm not going to consume it haphazardly and will stick to foods tried and true that at the very least my grandparents lived 100 years on, and all it requires of me is to avoid processed foods. I think that's a wise enough and practical enough decision for anyone to adopt.
