I keep seeing people talking about homemade MREs. Anyone here made any, or have any advice? I have a dehydrator and regular kitchen, if I get into this I'll be getting a vacuum sealer as well. Trying to avoid making em like pic related, I want relatively balanced meals and something that is going to be healthy to eat for a long time.

As far as a homemade MRE, I'd say your best bet would be buying dehydrated food rated to last a long time and then pairing it with other items of a similar nature.
The ones in that picture have meat with a higher than average shelf life and some other rinky dink shit. Beyond an actual MRE, it may be difficult to find off-the-shelf foods to compare for longevity.

I’d say google backpacking recipes. It’s all non perishable and lightweight. Lots of oats and dehydrated things.

For anyone doing this, or even just storing food: every 10C increase in temperature about doubles the reaction rate of most chemical reactions. Cooling slows them by the same amount. If you can keep your long-term storage underground in a cool basement, they will last much longer than in a pantry on ground-level.
