I like to go up to whatever they are cooking, it makes no difference what it is, and add a tablespoon of water. If they protest, I just say that a little water never hurt anyone. It never affects the taste, or does anything at all, but nevertheless, they really get steamed.

This reads like something from Catcher in the Rye. The conversational tone, the old slang ("steamed"), the small scale annoying conduct.

I used to love throwing a small amount of calcium powder into food. It would make people really freak out about the white power but it is good for you and doesn't affect taste at all

This is why people who was dishes are soulless assholes and you just know if you tried to explain to them how they aggrieved you, they would cloak themselves in moral superiority and endlessly repeat that they were just doing you a favor and never learn anything whatsoever from the negative feedback.
