A puppy wouldn't be enough to survive for 30 days, assuming you would also be rid of body fat, if you weren't rid of fat and muscle then you could survive on your body using that to survive.

Doesn't make sense. The total number of calories would be the same, it's not like the dog will replenish his blood from thin air and sunlight like a plant. If it is replenished at all it will be from his fat reserves or something. Only advantage might be, that if you kill him the meat will spoil, but I think you can eat it quickly enough.
