Just don't claim to have invented something that you got from someone else. A white person watching a black Jamaican guy make jerk chicken and then making it himself isn't cultural appropriation. The majority of people are happy to share their culture with others if they show an interest in it. There's nothing wrong with sharing culture and it's a big part of how things change for the better. You don't have to prescribe to dogma in college, you just can't be vitriolically oppositional. You have to engage with the material, but not necessarily to affirm it. The main thing you learn is to think critically and form arguments.

An idea that seems like self-evident bullshit, is a perfect opportunity to practice analytical thinking, and expand not your ideas, but the way in which you view ideas and can dissect ideas. If your criticism of something amounts simply to 'no that is wrong', then you're a, not going to get anywhere with people who disagree, and b, displaying your fundamental inability to think analytically.

It certainly is possible to avoid critical thinking and just regurgitate course material, but you won't get great grades, you won't stand out from your peers, and if you genuinely disagree with the material, then you're in the fortunate position of requiring a high degree of intellectual rigour to do well. That is like taking on a challenge and setting high standards for yourself. As long as you actually engage with the material, make some concessions to it, then you can rebut it and your teachers will respect you for it.
