Pineapple is pretty damn shitty as a topping, probably one of the worst things out of more "traditional"-toppings to put in it but i can see why people like it.
I used to swear by the pineapple too when i was younger, naive and clueless with a kids palate as in well into adulthood.

Its not a meme, I genuinely hate pineapple pizza. The reason it's irritating is because its almost exclusively ate by picky people who have to have some sort of sugary/sweet element to everything they eat. Burger and fries? Smothered in ketchup. Chinese food? sweet and sour chicken.

Pineapple overpowers everything... need a sweet and subtle element? Caramelized onions.

Most vegetables work better and still serve as giving it that sweet & subtle taste but then again people who use ketchup or bbq-sauce on regular basis have lost their taste anyway so just give them their pizza 'hawaii'.

I used to hate pineapple on pizza, or even pineapples in geberal. As a kid, i would always ask someone else to pick out the pineapples so i could just enjoy the ham and cheese.

Over time, they missed a few chunks and i ate them anyway, and then i grew to like them. I dont even eat pineapples on their own.

In OP's defense, I was born in '86, grew up in a New Jersey town where pizza was a major component of our regular diet, and I didn't even once encounter anyone having a problem with pineapple as a topping in all my childhood / adolescence that took place there. It was only much later, like the past few years, that I've come across this as a problem people have, and I've only seen it in the context of the internet, never in real life.
Same deal with ketchup on hot dogs incidentally, that one came out of nowhere from my perspective too (although I'm aware people in weird other regions like Chicago have apparently always dwelt on this as something bad even though in the rest of the US where people don't have mass food autism ketchup is literally one of the two condiments everyone always offers to you as options any time you order a hot dog).

Yeah no, that's a bunch of bullshit.
People who eat Hawaiian pizza probably also eat burgers and fries with ketchup and sweet and sour chicken at Chinese food restaurants, but not for the weird psychological motivation you're trying to get at here. The eat it the same reason most everyone else eats it, because those two foods you've brought up are super-common orders people in modern Western countries are born into recognizing as normal.
People don't sit there with a burger and fries and think to themselves "oh no, this meal doesn't have enough of a sweet taste, better mask it with sugar!" The fact nobody adds sugar packets to burgers and fries or to Chinese food should tell you that much. For the burgers and fries / ketchup thing I think a much more likely explanation you'd get from people who order that is the food would seem dry otherwise. Same reason it'd be kind of disappointing to get some soft tacos from Taco Bell but realize when you check the bag that there isn't any hot sauce in there. Or with blue cheese / ranch dressing missing on your buffalo wings.

pineapple can work fine on pizza but it does need a few adjustments to be right firstly instead of bread dough you should start off with a round thin portion of cake and then you put on instead of cheese and tomato you have a layer of jam and custard then you put your pieces of pineapple on top

I've had to order pizza for various company outtings at least 80-90 times. The cheese almost always goes first, regardless of what other types/flavors are ordered. I have an unlimited budget as well... The logic you're using is universally incorrect: ordering cheese pizza is not so much about cost as it is about flavor, and most people prefer the simplest. As an American it's hard for me to explain too... But usually it comes down to the level of exposure to different foods/flavors, especially during the younger years. Kids are offered a narrow band of shit like macaroni and cheese, cheese pizza, or hot dogs... So when they grow up, they remain a creature of comfort.
