When the Navajo surrendered to the Army, they were force marched to more or less a concentration camp at Fort Sumner until terms could be sorted out. I live near the Santee Sioux over in South Dakota. Pretty much the same thing here with their casino. I go there occasionally for the buffet and it is at least half white people working there; they can't get enough natives to do the jobs, despite plenty of them being un/under employed. Apparently though, back before they started their guaranteed income program in the mid 2000s, nearly all the employees at the casino & other reservation were natives.

I find this whole subject very interesting to bring up whenever various basic income proposals are brought up. These tribes provide a good real world example of something similar to most UBI proposals, and could be compared to similar tribes that don't have basic income programs.

Many many fishes originated with Native Americans. I grew up by a Rez and have eaten many a meal with families. Fry bread obviously. But fried green tomatoes, succotash, acorn bread, roasted pork, venison and bison. Awesome corn soups, just a lot of really fresh ingredients. It's their seasoning and method that's different when it comes to roasted meats. Great people and great food
