I’ve never cooked a dish before and I want to start with a Sheppard’s Pie. What’s a good recipie for one, /ck/?

>> No.11136223

Shephards pie is a bit involved especially if you've never cooked. I'd make mashed potatoes at least once before attempting the whole thing. It seems like the easiest thing to make, but I've known of people who actually fucked up mashed potatoes. If it turns out well, great you can use it as your crust.

Holy shit, THIS. Don't underestimate it as a new cook. It looks deceptively easy, but there is a lot of work involved. The upside is that if you make it right, you can make a metric fuckload of it and you'll be set for a week.

Marco has a good recipe on youtube that breaks down the complexity of the recipe and why he does certain things

Millenials are totally unaware of the concept of growing seasons.

They think it's normal to buy summer produce year-round, and are totally clueless about how it got there. Then they'll tell you to 'go vegan' because that's "better for the environment". Meanwhile, they are utterly dependent on a fleet of smoke-belching ships and trucks to feed their "environmentally friendly diet".

I've got the perfect recipe for you right here:
-load (hollow points recommended)
-insert muzzle into your mouth, angling upwards so that the barrel points towards the brain stem
-pull trigger

So make it. Hell, plain 'ol homemade beef stock will be plenty good enough.

He is, in fact, very wrong. This amazing new invention called "different parts of the world are able to grow different produce due to amazingly integrated supply chains" exists in the current year.

>> No.11137624

>>11137599
Guarantee you will get a better flavor to effort ratio with packaged au jus powder jazzed up with some fresh herbs. Making demiglace that is worth the time (ie better than store bought) makes sense in a commercial kitchen but not to some guy learning to make shepherds pie for the first time

So not fresh.
Let alone you are cooking a fucking heavy ass casserole in fucking August.

The “integrated supply chain” is exactly what he is referencing, dummy.

Real talk I definitely didn't read his whole post before going off on a dumbass post. But the idea that people these days aren't aware how growing seasons work or where they get there food from is asinine.

First restaurant I worked for would do southwestern flavored shepherds pie for staff meal. I remember some steamy summer nights making that stuff. Definitely suited for fall and winter

>> No.11137653

>>11137638
No it isn’t asinine the average consumer is a willfully ignorant moron when it comes to where their food comes from.
