I really want to like broccoli, I can handle the taste and can season it decently. But I just can't get over the texture, I tried steaming it in a pan, but the bushy part gets mushy before the stalk softens. Any ideas?

Turn 12 and maybe you'll start to like vegetables more.

If you're struggling with texture that much there's nothing you can do. A cheese or butter sauce might be your only chance...

Take a shot of red wine vinegar. Get ready to not be able to breath then maybe vomit. A cup of milk first will make you better able to handle it. Do this and you will be stronger. And enjoy fine foods like broccoli in many forms and preparations.

Here's how you steam broccoli my dude... First keep the broccoli in the fridge until the very moment you throw it in the water. When you wash the broccoli, make sure that the tops are shaken/blotted totally dry. Throw those bitches in a pot of water after it reaches a rolling boil. Put a lid on that bitch and pull them out as soon as they turn a dark green color. It does not take long, maybe 60 seconds.

Roast it.

It takes on a totally different flavor. You won't just be handling the taste, you'll love it.

Steam them separately; clean the stalk very well so there's no fibrous flesh left, cut it and steam it. A couple of minutes later add the florets, divide them as much as you can with your hands.

When they're tender, blend them well with a but of water from your steaming, fry some onions in a pan, add some butter, your broccoli, season and bring to a boil again. Top with croutons.

Roast it instead. I used to be a very picky eater, but a few years ago I decided I was sick of it and have been forcing myself to get used to a variety of foods (there are still some things I dislike, of course).

I had to start with broccoli I basically roasted until burnt, but now I'll eat it any way but raw (texture still bugs me).

Cut it into separate parts, not too big and not too small.
In a small pot melt knob of butter over very low heat with drizzle of olive oil, squeeze of lemon juice and bit of lemon zest, salt and pepper. Throw in the broccoli, stir to nicely coat it in the flavored butter, put lid on and let it steam for 3 minutes. Serve. Eat. Enjoy.
