I'm going to Chengdu tomorrow. Gonna eat some dog. You guys ever try it?

>> No.11087173

Have a nice time. A lot of Chinese cities are boring but I had a lot of fun in Chengdu. Sichuanese food is amazing. Make sure to explore the countryside and Yunnan too if you can.

They had some dog meat available back when I was teaching English in Korea a long time ago. I didn't bother trying it though. It doesn't sound like anything particularly great tasting compared to other meats, in fact it seems to mostly only get used for meat in poorer regions that needed it at some point to deal with famine and kept it on the menu as tradition thereafter.

Yeah, exactly, it's starving peasant meat.

So why are you eating it instead of something better obviously. Why did you need to ask?

Because I want to try it. Poor people food is usually the best

Nah. I probably wouldn't eat dog unless I had some very definite proof that the dogs were raised and slaughtered humanely. Even then I might hesitate. Call me a bleeding heart if you want.

Nah not because of>>11087573 but because of>>11087548 animals that have eaten meat generally have an off flavor. It's why you don't feed swines meat even though they're technically omnivores and why feral boar has to be cooked so much did differently than it's domestic cousin.

I ate a dog in college but I can’t recall her name.

I'm glad you got to post your image but it doesn't refute my post. If the animals are raised humanely and treated well then I'm ok with them being slaughtered for consumption.

>> No.11087615

Kinda. Fish and crustacean don't have this because they eat other seafood but gator is known to have one of the rankest tasting fats out there if the meat hasn't been butchered right and it's left connected to the meat.

Interesting. I’ve eaten whale fat and it tasted like shit to me too, likely for the same reason.

Idk why whale would taste bad as idk how they'd eat a bunch of terrestrial meat. Perhaps their fat goes rancid like shark meat and gets ammonianated
