No it isn't. Tell me a better $30 liter of bourbon, then. It's a high rye mash, if that's what you're asking. They won't tell you outright, but it's around 35% rye.

Their actual rye is 90% rye mash, which is what "real" rye should be (even though the requirement is 51%)

High rye bourbons are a good compromise between actual ryes and sweeter bourbons. They'll have a dryer, spicier finish, but still be more warm and balanced like a bourbon.

Sorta, but not really. To specify, it was pretty well known/accepted unofficially that their juice came from four roses, but the actual contract has since expired. With the 5-7ish year aging that means that 2019ish released bottles should be from a different source. Wondering if anyone knew where they were sourcing their new juice from.

On a similar note, does anyone know how to interpret the batch codes/numbers? I assume that because they've gone out of the way to put it there, there is some sort of valid system behind it (even if it might just be to help as a marketing gimmick), but I can't seem to find any information on the internet on this. I figured it out if anyone is interested. For all diageo stuff, LYXXX where Y is the last number of year i.e. L8 is probably 2018 and X is the day of the year (001-365). Apparently no one really knows what the numbers after are, but it seems to be bottling location information and if you have a LYXYYZ or some other type of lot number then it's a older lot code system, and from what I've seen no one really knows how to interpret that either.

Oban is peated, just because it doesn't hit you overthe head with a 10lb bag of charcoal like Laphroaig doesn't mean it isn't peated.

I swear, so many new scotch drinkers are just as annoying as "craft beer enthusiasts" who circlejerk over who can stomach the most potent alcoholic hop juice and see anything that doesn't taste like eating a pine tree as lesser beer.

Flavors can be balanced and not primarily hit you with one single thing!

As a craft beer enthusiast I am offended.
My fridge, right now, contains several IPAs and DIPAs, true, but it also has several imperial stouts, sour ales, amber ales, tripels, a dubbel, a barleywine, and a golden ale.
People who only go for IPAs don't fully appreciate the flavors beer can have.
They're plebs and their opinion should be ignored.

But this is a whisk(e)y thread.

That's why I said "craft beer enthusiasts" - there are legitimately good craft beers out there (especially if you live in a whest and hop growing region, you can find a lot of little breweries and garage operations doing cool things), but many such self-deacribed enthusiasts seem to think craft beer=sextuple-hopped-IPA, same as many self-described scotch fans think the measure of taste is how much peaty it is.

Only good IBs are from distilleries that do their own single casks such as Glendronach, Glenfarclas, Benriach, Arran, Springbank, Edradour, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain and sometimes Glenlivet when they aren't a massivefucking ripoff even moreso then Glendronachs can be.

Update:
So I autistically noted down the prices for all the whiskeys I would like to try at my supermarket and calculated their 25% off price (they have a 25% off on THING promo every weekend, and about twice a year, it's on liqor), so I'll find out if duty free is worth it. I'll keep this thread (or rather, its successor next week) posted on how it went.

I absolutely love scotch of all profiles and have a small collection going.

The Irish, Japanese and international malts I've drunk have also been decent to great.

I decided that I wanted to try getting into bourbon. So I got a Four Roses Yellow Label and honestly it tastes and smells like rotten flowers/fruits. Is it because it's a cheap and shitty bourbon? Or is that the flavour profile of bourbon? What kinda bourbon should I get if I wanted to give it another chance?

I can kinda understand why one would want artificial meat (inb4 hurrdurr vegan soy boy), but what kind of problem are they trying to solve?
Whiskey (or wine for that matter) is a superfluous product that no one needs and part of the joy is that whole ridiculousnes behind it, so I don't know who would want to get rid of it's defining part.
But now at least you can simply get the right """""""whiskey"""""""" to pair with your soilent.

In general, cocktails. I like both bourbon and scotch. The former is far more flexible when it comes to cocktails, the latter is best left alone.

For me personally, while I find scotch more pleasing, I can't drink as much of it. If I'm just looking to relax, it's great, if I want to get hammered, I prefer bourbon.

Good quality. Smooth, slightly exciting, scent and sweetness of light caramel.
Whiskey who purchased barrel from other places where liquor shops blended has a tendency to be weak personality. This is also very good, but it's not an exception.
This may be more suitable for nightcap than meal.
