Going to NOLA next month, what are some must eats?

Can i still eat crawfish, also what a good but affordable creole place?

Also not even racist, but how do I stay safe among blacks down there? I know some areas got hit pretty badly by katarina and are still rebuilding.

You'll be hard pressed to find boiled crawfish this time of year. The season usually runs from february through early may. Also do watch out for the blacks. I had a great meal at commanders palace when I was there. make sure to get a reservation + observe the dress code.

I love the muffaleta sandwich, and you can only really get it here.

also, really liked willie mae's scotch house for fried chicken + other soul food. Definitely go here, unless you are too scared of black people to order their food without sperging out.

Wander around the French Quarter. That's the tourist zone, and the main money pipeline for NOLA. Cops keep it safe for tourists. You can literally wander around shitfaced at 5:00 am and be safe as houses. Plus there's a ton of restaurants, 24-hour bars, voodoo museums, fortune tellers, and street artists to amuse yourself with. Stop by Cafe du Monde for the iconic coffee and beignets to sober up. There basically are no bad restaurants in NOLA, the competition is too fierce. Their worst restaurants is equal to a mediocre restaurant anywhere else, including NYC, LA, or Chicago.

i fucking love new orleans. south carrolton avenue area by tulane has a bunch of badass restaurants. jacque-imos is fucking delicious. me and my girlfriend rented bikes and biked around cuz the city's not very big physically. we also got super drunk like every night and were never robbed. if i can wander around blacked out in that city and be safe i feel like you're fine.
