That really has to do with the individual breed moreso than the species. Wild hens (of whatever species of bird) will protect their eggs. We call it "going broody". This has been selectively bred out of most domestic fowl because it makes it a hassle for the farmer to retrieve the eggs. If you ever shop around for chicks note that different breeds retain varying amounts of the "broody" instinct.

There's nothing wrong with backyard chickens, we need more human/animal relationships bereft of exploitation where both parties benefit from each other. If you take a few unfertilized eggs from a hen that does not mind, is safe and well fed because you care for it correctly when it would it otherwise be suffering in a cramped henhouse or eaten painfully by a stray coyote, there is nothing there that conflicts with what should be the core tenants of effective veganism. Other vegans may disagree, that's just my perspective. If you're killing your hens for their meat that's a different story.

Not really. We have these 3 and made this lightweight pen we move every couple weeks. They've been averaging 2/day which is plenty for 2 people. They live like queens, express their own personalities, let me stroke them and they really seem to enjoy it. There's no way anyone can mount a rational argument against it.

Having eaten cat before I can tell you they don't taste good. They have very coarse muscle fibers and their flesh has a weird gaminess to it. Much more valuable as pets and work animals, imo.
