post the brand that turned you into a "beer guy"

with tears in my eyes, I say this: "I was out a restaurant with friends. The restaurant is Four Peaks, Tempe brewery who produces this beer. Not being a beer guy, I said what do you recommend, they recommended this beer with my cheeseburger. I took ONE sip, and I was hooked. It was literally it for me.

Sadly they got acquired by AB and I don't know why... but I think the taste has changed even though they assure me it has not. Anyway I'm hooked on Irish ales, end of story.

What's your beer guy story /ck/?

was made where I went to college, and it started being made not long before I turned 21 so it was the first really good beer I started drinking repeatedly

But my perception of the term "beer guy" is not someone who drinks beer, but specifically someone who is into good beer. Before that I drank plenty of shitty beer

I had an IPA a year before this and thought that this beer was mostly an outlier in the world of lager and commercial pale ale. So this beer pretty much broke a barrier and made me understand there was a lot of possibility with beer. Since then i went to the local boutique beer shop and tried everything until i started brewing me own.

The majority of IIPA's are bad but this one is still one i enjoy on occasions.

Moved across the street from a Belgian beer bar. Never drInk much beer before then. Went in and just asked for whatever they recommended. One sip of this and I too was hooked. Spend the next year of my life drinking 10$ on tap imported Belgian beers. Good fucking times.

I didn't like shit beer so I thought I didn't like beer. Eventually I developed a taste for Mexican beers since my dad drinks Corona, but I don't consider that beer, it's a vehicle for limes and joints in the summer. Then once I actually started drinking with my dad, it was lagunitas IPA which blew my mind. I still like it, although mostly for nostalgia. I think the beer that convinced me that expensive hipster beer was a worthwhile endeavor, something approaching an artform, was a nitro old Rasputin from the North coast taproom in fort Bragg, and the same week a farmhouse sour from almanac, both of which were pretty intense experiences.

I'm clearly from California lil

Seems like a relevant thread to ask this question.

Is it possible to do a beer diet? Like cute out solid foods and get all necessary vitamins from beer? Beer is loaded with calories so I assume there is some substance there.

If I took a daily multi vitamin and drank only beer for a month. What would happen?

Fun fact, that location, where the original chop shop currently is, used to be the location of the Philadelphia sandwich company. PSC later moved to that place that is now an indian restaurant on craftsman, they later shut down. PSC was open 24 hours and was a well known place to get food after the bars closed.
I was sad to see them go, but I do have to admit that quality had started to slip a little bit here and there.

I never liked beer, growing up, everyone I knew who drank beer was drinking bud, or Miller high life, or Pabst.
I had occasion to move to Germany in 2006. My first day in my new Bavarian home, I figured I'd give beer another shot, since it's part of the culture and history. Not knowing what's what, I ordered a Bittburger. My first sip, it's was like seeing the light. It clicked in mymind, "Oh! This is what beer is supposed to taste like!"
Bit is far from my favorite now (although it does have a nostalgic charm for me) I got really into Hefeweizens while I was there, Erdinger is probably my favorite THATIS available in the US.

Of course I come back to California in 2011, and craft beers, and Hefes especially are all the rage, served with fucking oranges for some stupid reason. But very few locally brewed Hefe give me that feeling of a perfect spring day in Bavaria, in a shady beer garden, with a view of the castle.

Not true, many do. There are American wheat beers that do not, but they generally do not call themselves "hefe" (stuff like Gumballhead or Oberon) usually stylized as "American Wheat Ale", or "Pale Wheat Ale"

"Hefe" is usually reserved for those brewed in the traditional style with traditional yeast

I had been trying lots of different beers and was slowly moving away from macro stuff, but I specifically remember my first sip of this. It was so piney and citrusy and for the first time I was able to pick up on it with no crazy bitter aftertaste.
