What does /ck think of the impossible burger? I just ate my first one, with standard burger toppings and cheddar cheese. I thought it was great! And it was my first time ever eating a meatless burger.

It wasn't the best burger I've ever had--not quite as good as the standard burger at the place I've went to--but still delicious. Beyond serviceable. Not sure, though, if it would hold up with just cheese.

I'm not even a vegetarian. I put cheese on this bad boy. I ate an Ancho-chili bbq burger with bacon from the same restaurant...yesterday.

Unfortunately for the vegan shills these are still comparable in price to grass fed organic beef from Costco. If the price dropped several fold I would consider switching.

in a box, frozen, because it's processed beyond belief and unhealthy as fuck.

It is retarded. It is like other fake stuff. It will never taste as good as the original. Imitation crab doesn't taste as good as as well as fresh crab. Maple syrup tastes better than pancake syrup that is Maple "flavored". Ice cream is better than frozen dairy desserts. Ect. Ect.

It's possible that it could at some point, but historically any advancement in technology with regard to food is based on factors that are opposed to flavor enhancement and focus on reducing time of seed to harvest, more convenient saturation in petroleum based carcinogenic chemicals, durability in transport and storage, at the direct expense of flavor. Sad really, late stage corporate fascist capitalism needs to go so we can reach our true potential with the technology at hand.

It's expensive, the texture is bleh, and the taste can't hold a candle to beef. NEXT!

I prefer chickpea patties. Trying to imitate meat is kind of dumb considering lab meat is approaching soon. Don't bullshit people, sell a good veggie patty and the customers will come.

>sell a good veggie patty and the customers will come

But this is false. This just outright contradicts reality, where veggie patties have middling success while the Impossible is actually getting uptake at real burger joints.

i haven't had "the impossible burger", but in 2009 I tried the "boca burger", a frozen imitation chicken patty. it was good. i still buy them sometimes because they don't have a regular spice you can get with frozen spicy chicken patties

I tried it. It tastes the most like beef of any fake burger. But still doesn't taste much like meat. Not bad though.

>> No.11030199

i think the beyond meat is better. the impossible burger has a more realistic look and texture, but it has this weird unnatural sweetness that is off-putting. it did not help that the place i got it from put a sweet coleslaw on it, but even after taking it off, that sweet flavor in the "meat" could not be escaped. i'd try it again, though, and if it was put in front of me i'd still eat it. could be that place just fucked up cooking it. i cook beyond meats all day where i work and if you cook them on a high heat they develop a crust. i like the crust, but cooking them on a lower heat to avoid the crust makes them a little more realistic.

When it first came out I had one at one of the David Chang joints, I forgot the name but it's on like 9th Avenue in Chelsea. it was ok as a novelty but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way for it . The main problem is that it looks superficially a lot like a real burger, but it doesn't have the texture or flavor of a real burger. At best it could pass for a nasty microwave burger you'd get on an airplane, where the "meat" is like 48% filler. The best thing about that meal was the french fries. As is typical with fake meat substitutes, it's just not worth the effort.

>uptake
Call me cynical, but I'm betting that the Impossible Burger team are at least offsetting (if not outright sponsoring) the costs of initially bringing their products to 'real burger joints' to get a sales/credibility boost from the general public's perception of 'well real burger joints are taking them seriously, maybe I should too.' It's basically a low-risk hype train for the burger joints involved, even if Impossible crashes and burns.

>lab meat
Precisely. Why bother tortuously teasing vegetable product into faux meat when we're a couple of years off (a decade or two at the outside) from cruelty-free meat?
