What European candies have you tried if you are from america
and how did you get them
and what did you think of em

>> No.11009445

>>11009414
I've tried a bunch. Too many to count/list, really.

>>where from
Traveling in Europe, Import isle in the supermarket, mail-order (amazon), Asian markets

>>What think
Meh: British biscuits and chocolate. Toblerone.

Great: Tom's Gold Bar chocolate (Denmark). Most things from Haribo. Robinson's Fruit Pastilles. Good wine gums and licorice allsorts (alas, many of them suck, much like gummi bears).

I like salmiak too, though that's obviously an acquired taste.

I've never had that one. I've had the Cadbury flake. It's alright, better than Hershey but then again that applies to nearly all chocolate.

I got skittles or starburts when i was in ireland as a kid. remember they had elderberry flavor. thought that was funny.

I like mint Aeros when they're frozen and the air bubbles get all crunchy.

Crunchie is pretty unique, nothing like it in the USA. You can get it in Canada, sometimes in an arab market falafel place kind of grocery, or on amazon for a premium price. The honeycomb sponge seafoam style sugar candy inside is an old-timey burnt sugar recipe that is minus the butter of a toffee, and has a melty texture on the tongue.

I like other foreign candy too, the chocolate dipped black licorice is a favorite such as lakrid sirius pipp or noa lakkris or salmiakk or marabou with salt licorice, oh an acquired taste, but way better than just sea salted chocolate. There is a walgreen's aussie licorice that is chocolate dipped I can sometimes find to be close enough.

I like the strange Haribos, like ginger-lemon. I also love eucalyptus and odd flavored gum, such as pine flavor or gum from Ireland like Airwaves honey-lemon which is like a strong Hall's cough drop.

Turo rudi... it’s a Hungarian chocolate bar with a sweet and lemony cottage cheese kind of feeling. Anyone know of anything similar available in the US?

Even the average Soviet-era markets had more variety of chocolate and candies than modern american supermarkets

I'm not really that big into candy, but have spent a lot of time traveling and living in Europe, so I've of course tried a few things here and there when I saw something different at the store. The only thing that really stood out to me was the shit from Iceland. I've always wanted to visit, but have only had layovers at the airport because based Iceland Air had the best prices and service traveling from the US to Europoor. There was really only one time that I had a real layover (not long enough to leave the airport) and could check out the duty free. I bought a couple big bottles of brennivín and basically one of every candy on the candy shelf, I don't know why. I'd been broken up with and decided to take a two day train trip halfway across the country instead of doing a couple connecting flights, and basically just drank brennivín and ate chocolate covered licorice for two days straight, and it was pretty comfy.

There is some world market nearby (20 min drive, live in flyoverland USA) that has a good selection of things from candies, cookies, to alcohol, meats, sauces, etc from abroad. Pic related is one I get most times I go. Also usually get Tunnock's Caramel wafers which are probably one of the best things Ive had there. Also like the digestives and they have all types of Milka chocolate bars. Also tried weisswurst from a jar and it wasnt too good. Otherwise only other foreign things were Toblerone (sold in major stores like walmart) and some Icelandic chocolate brand from a local Polish butcher shop, tasted like old dusty shit t.b.h.

icelandic chocolates and licorice are just pretty damn good.
Try to layover longer! They don't charge you to do that up to 3 days, I believe. A trip to blue lagoon is the way to start a trip if you redeye over there and it's too early for hotel check-in. I once soaked and rested for upwards of 5 hours, and those chairs on the second floor in the glass sunroom were awesome. But, most of all, I vividly remember an ice cream popsicle from their snack counter, chocolate black licorice filled and dipped, with vanilla ice cream. OMG so good!

I think what you need to understand is that cadburys and all the old stuff that was golden was bought out by american conglomerates years ago. The sweets are complete garbage compared to what they used to be it's not even real chocolate anymore its just Ameri-candy mixed with corn syrup. (read: vomit) It's unironically the most depressing thing I've seen.
