What you should be more concerned about in terms of bodily fluids is during rush periods sweat literally rolling off the cooks face onto the food, general ball scratching, scab picking, coughing, sneezing, lack of hand washing after pissing and shitting, etc. Those happen in every restaurant all the time whereas intentionally spitting in food would be very uncommon.

I worked in fast food when I was younger. I did this once. I did this because the customer first started a shouting match with his wife then began shouting at me before I had even started his order. It was not even as if I provoked him, just that he wanted to take his aggression out on someone in a service role.

I was with someone who needed to be extremely pretentious and superior to the wine server/waiter, claimed they knew wine better than them and wouldn't shut up. Tip at least 25%, and do not request anything that requires them to do extra work in any way. Also if you order water instead of a drink you're getting spit, since that directly reduces their tip. If you order hot tea you're also getting spit since that's more work for them. Come in alone then you might also get spit since you're hurting their earnings/hour having to waste their time coming by your table to bring your lonely ass food.

Basically just think of your server as an actual person deserving of your respect and not your personal food robot and you'll be fine.

I've seen it the other way around before. Customer spat in his burger right in front of the server and many others in the restaurant, and then forced her to eat it in front of him. Fucked up thing is that the manager saw it too and didn't say anything, so she eventually ate the whole thing while crying. The worst thing I ever did was when it was already about 10 minutes past closing and I still had to close the registers. We were waiting on this crispy chicken sandwhich and had to wait 7 minutes for it to cook. Since we were closed I only cooked one. I dropped it as I pulled it out.
Now the floor was pretty clean and I definitely feel bad for doing it but I wanted to go home.
This was in the drive-thru with the lobby closed already so he couldn't see.
