Which brand of rice cookers would you recommend /ck/? What about clay pots, I wouldn't know where to get one specifically for cooking rice, but I've heard that cooking rice in clay pots is superior.

>Clay pots
A meme anon. Just buy a jap or Korean rice cooker from an Asian market or online. If there isn't an Asian market near you or you are too poor for a good quality rice cooker than the cheap ones you find at Walmart will do in a pinch. I find the cheap ones tend to leave too much moisture and sometimes scorch the bottom of the rice but beggars can't be choosers.

If you're asking /ck/ and not your mother, then you're not Asian enough to need one, and you're not going to be able to tell the difference between the rice from a a $30 Oster, vs a $300 Zojirushi

I would avoid a non stick one. Make sure it has a stainless steel or something like that bowl inside. My old one flaked away over the years, so turns out I was eating non stick.

Non-stick coatings are a terrible invention anyways. They seem neat for the lazy housewife, but you can't touch them with metal and after half a year of heavy usage the coating is going to come off regardless of the quality level and then you'll be eating that stuff involuntarily. I learned that lesson when I bought my first set of pans.

Locking lid, stainless steel inner bowl.
Aromas are fine.
Instant Pots are amazing if you're interested in the other features they have as well.
Zojis are the best but unnecessary unless you're literally Asian and eat rice 2 to 3 times a day.

Last year I upgraded to a rice cooker that also slow cooks and I use this function all the time now especially in the summer. I'd also like to be able to pressure cook in it though. Should I upgrade again to a so-called "instant pot" or will I end up regretting it?

Get one that people in Asia buy instead of some European or American brand, those dudes know rice. Or get an instant pot, that thing does fucking everything.

I just used one of these for the first time yesterday. It took longer than you'd expect, longer than an electric rice cooker if you follow the instructions and soak the rice for 30min, but turned out pretty good, though slightly chewier due to water foaming out of the holes.

I got one on sale and I really like it. I suck at cooking and everything is streamlined. Put food it, set timer, comes out right. There's also a ton of good recipes people put up on youtube.

Having owned both, the difference is night and day.You have to be a complete tastelet to not be able to tell the difference (well, my dad couldn't, and basically just said, "rice is rice", but he also doesn't really taste his food as he shovels it in).

I have ADHD-I and would burn my house down if I cooked rice on a regular basis, even while medicated.

Are there ricecookers that don't turn the rice touching the pan into a sheet of rubbery glue? That's my one problem with the cheapass one I have.

>> No.10949226

Cheap rice cookers just have an on/off switch, and work by turning off when a thermometer exceeds the boiling point of water - because that's when the rice is done cooking. Fuzzy logic rice cookers have a little computer in them that adjusts the time and temperature throughout the cooking process.
