No one who isn't a complete moron thought the name change was going to be permanent. It was just a clever way to gain attention for the announcement of adding burgers to the menu.

>> No.10921631

When they first said they were changing to IHOB, my reaction was to think that things must not be going so well for them. Then they claimed it was all a big joke, which made me think things REALLY must not be going well for them

>> No.10921633

>>10921621
>They are already walking back their burger stunt.
It was never meant to be permanent in the first place. It was a ploy to get marketing buzz.
>>zomg, Stacy! Did you hear that IHOP is changing it's name to IHOB!
>>Wow, Chad! That's cool! I need to message everyone on my Facegram right now!!

>>10921623
It's a news item that gets people talking about the name change. That gets the brand in people's minds. Nothing more.

>>am I just out of touch with normies?

Why didn't you immediately realize it was a PR stunt and it was a lie the whole time?

>> No.10921639

Because of the massive amount of social media buzz "changing" the name of an established brand can cause. What is there not to get?

>> No.10921641

But I don't thing "any publicity is good publicity" applies to restaurants. I mean, there's a lot of things a restaurant could get in the news for that are bad for business, like food poisoning stories. I'm not saying that IHOPs stunt is as bad as a food poisoning story, but it's not a positive story either.

>> No.10921674

>How is it even good at all though?
I already explained that. It gets people talking about it, like we are doing now. That keeps the brand and the logo in people's minds. That's how it works. It doesn't have to be "good", it simply has to be something that people think about. Obviously "good press" would be better, but even bad press keeps the brand name in people's brains. That's all that's needed to promote brand recognition and sales.

There are lots of psych studies that have been done on this.

Not that anyone cares but I had Denny's new burger intended to compete with this. It tries to be juicy, but I would describe it more as "wet".
