I don't really like American lagers, they taste sour to me. I got addicted to Corona with lime while out travelling and entertaining clients. Since it's easy to drink like a lager and can be drank by the case with low impact.

The darker the beer, the better it tastes with a sweet ingredient as it goes along with the bitter notes from the porter/stout to give a really nice balanced flavor profile. Coffee stouts that have a different bitter edge are also delicious. They don't flavor regular lagers and wheat beers with the same stuff because it doesnt work, it has to be really dark to pull it off.

I grew up in PA and thought it was pretty trash, but having tasted other regional equivalents, it's oddly OK.

In the US are macrobreweries tend to use rice and or corn.

Budweiser tastes more rice heavy with a nice abrasiveness from it (like a more intense carbonation), and Coors has a light corn sweetness to it. I like them both even though I much prefer good beer

but some of our local hop strains like nelson sauvin, motueka and rakau are pretty impressive . when used heavily i would say they go head to head with cascade, citra and most american heavy hitting similar strains

So in my city there is a place modeled after german hafbrahauses. I love the normal German lager, its so fresh and goes down easily. Does anyone have any good recs for American beers modeled after traditional German lagers? You know the beers that are pretty soft and crisp tasting and dont really have any spiciness to them.

The point is that it's the best mass production US beer, especially when you compare the quality (acceptable) to the price point (outstanding). You go into any average US pleb-tier bar that only has five beer choices, and one of them is Yuengling, that's what you get.

Meanwhile, almost every other style, including many old ones that Europeans basically stopped making (the big Bavarian brewers killed so many classic northern German styles) have excellent examples readily available in America.
If you think craft beer is primarily about weird gimmick flavors you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. They definitely exist but there are like 6,500 breweries in America mostly making at least 20 beers in a year, and many much more, and the gimmick beers make a small fraction of them. Luckily with these the gimmicks that turn out to be good survive leading to innovation, but the market is so broad that it allows innovative and classic beers to thrive together, usually in the exact same taprooms

Thats known as skunkyness. It happens in all beer packaged in clear or green bottles. Its a shitty packaging format.
Its the result of UV light causing a reaction with a chemical in the hops. Interestingly the one beer that avoids this is High Life because they have found a way to remove that initial chemical before packaging

Dollar General has been selling these for 9.60 where I live. It's fucking awesome, and honestly they don't taste that bad. They're better than Steel Reserve despite basically being the same thing .
