I have met a few, albeit none where it was like “are you male or female?” And they say “I’m trans”. Seen plenty in or around downtown Seattle as well as Olympia.

The most harrowing experience for me was when I walked in Lush inside the mall. I am addicted to the scents of homemade soaps so I walked in focused on that.

Someone came over to greet me and ask if I needed help and when I looked up, it was a very obvious male dressed and hair done as a female and talking in a higher pitch.

Add to that my existing disdain for small talk and most social situations and I was most definitely uncomfortable.

It makes them more satisfied, the way a person with phantom limb syndrome feels more at ease once he is given a prosthetic. You've probably never known a trans person. Their capacity for self development increases to an astonishing degree once they can look in the mirror and see something resembling the way they feel.

Maybe you've never known anybody with a mental illness, either. None of them are ever free of it. They are just taught methods of living with it.

Why do post-op trans people have a high suicide rate? Hard to say for sure with what we know at present. Maybe it's because there are so many people like you? The unoperated suicide rate is still higher than the post-op suicide rate, regardless.
