I was in Downtown Portland on the 4th for the fireworks display. I was with my friend of course. We stopped at the local McDonalds restaurant downtown, near the Portland State University campus.

Well, it hadn't occurred to me that most restaurants would be closed on the fourth. But not this McDonalds restaurant. Imagine my surprise when I walked into this packed McDonalds restaurant! Perhaps you saw me there?

I told my friend "i'll order your food, it'll be quicker". But I really just wanted to buy my good friend Eddie's food. It had nothing to do with checkout speed. I ordered a sausage breakfast burrito and a McChicken. He ordered a 10 piece McNugget and a large fry. The order came to $8 which was a bit more than I expected. I took my receipt and we sat down at a booth. I checked the menu, and found that a 10 piece was $5, and a 20 piece was $5.50. 5 cents more a nugget!

I went up to the counter and asked if it would be possible to upgrade to the 20 piece for an additional 50 cents. The manager was more than happy to oblige. And in fact said 'it's free, put your quarters away'. He then asked which employee had taken my order and not suggested the 20 piece. I told him which employee, and he said that he would be reprimanded accordingly. This may all sound like a lot, but it's just another typical day at my local McDonalds restaurant.
