The word 'anime' is kind of a synonym.
So the capitalized version 'Anime' refers to the genre.
When talking about the series lower case and the singular would be used eg. 'My favorite anime is Sailor Moon and Cowboy Bebop'
If you were to be referring to characters then correct form would be ' My favorite anime is Naruto Uzamaki' or for the plural 'My favorite animes are Naruto Uzamaki and Ichigo Kurasaki'
It's subtle but how you use the term depending on the context of what you are saying.
