Are you dense? If you haven't realized that studies mean nothing because they continuously flip flop on everything, then you your're a lost cause.

For years the only studies about coffee have been positive, linking daily drinkers with lower obesity and better heart health. I don't know why you're struggling to follow events as they unfold.

The study just shows that people with a habit of drinking a couple cups of coffee every day live longer than people who don't, or people who drink gratuitous amounts.
Small habits build up to much bigger impacts over time.

Since OP didn't link the article and I don't give a shit enough about reading buzzfeed-tier health articles to find it, that is entirely your interpretation of what the article says and not what it says in the 3 paragraphs that the OP posted. Risk of death could mean literally anything from car accidents to cancer to heroin overdose. There is no way to replicate these studies precisely and accurately so they are by definition not scientific. It's the same bullshit with "how drinking red wine is beneficial" that Cosmo puts on the cover of their magazines every other year. It's meant to get clicks and sell magazines, not scientific journals.

It's probably accurate, but because people who are spending tons of money on coffee aren't poor and are going to have a better life anyways, nothing to do with coffee in particular

It was a USA Today article and I don't like linking to pages that try to force you to sign up for their mailing list etc, I have addons that block that kind of annoying shit but most don't.

I buy whole bean coffee that isn't Folgers tier cheap nasty bullshit powder and it still costs just about twenty-five cents per cup. I don't think of coffee as something expensive.

Probably any natural source of caffeine + antioxidants (tea as well) does this.

The dude is half right. You should take those things with a grain of salt, since there are a number of factors that can distort the outcome. The study's methodology and assumptions could be flawed. The sample size could be flawed. The current publish or perish culture in the sciences is heavily biased toward positive results. There could be alot of null results that are simply never published.

I would hope they wouldn't publish studies with no results. That would complicate things.

I wonder who would finance such a study and who would benefit most from it.

The word linked on the title is the important part. They can't show that it actually makes you live longer, it is just suggested it might be associated.

These are just like the chocolate studies that say it is good for you. They forget to mention it is only the cacao. Or how all the sugar on your chocolate will cause more negative effects than benefits.

It makes sense to say that coffee can help you live longer when a study positively correlates longer life with a moderate coffee intake, while the study also positively correlates shorter lifespan with very high coffee intake or no coffee intake at all.

I think it's similar to what >>10850857 said about natural caffeine and antioxidants. I'll keep my morning coffee, afternoon tea, evening red wine and midnight tequila :^)

Some country just needs to adopt authoritarianism for the interests of science. Perform long studies that study long term effects of certain foods on health using the entire population as the sample size. For the good of humanity.

I don't drink coffee often, when I do though it makes me feel energized but also relaxed, not jittery. If I drink it too often though I don't really feel anything from it, it just makes me feel not tired.

People who can afford to regularly drink multiple cups of coffee every day might also just be more likely to have a higher quality of life overall too.

it's a correlation-causation issue.
take a group of 10 000 people, put 5 000 on caffeine, 5 000 on water.
the water-drinkers will probably be healthier on average.
but compared to drinking soda and other sugary shit, coffee is probably better.
