Is meal prep just a meme?

>go to taco bell
>$5 for a couple bean burritos or something
>1000-1200 cal

>make chicken rice and broccoli
>$15 for 6 chicken breasts at kroger
>Makes 5 ish servings
>$3-$4 a serving
>400-500 cal each

What the fuck, I'm barely saving any money

>> No.10832371

Yeah but it's way better than eating beans and flour tortillas every day.

$1-2 a meal x3 meals x365 days a year is $1k to $2k saved a year, plus eating healthier saves you on health care costs down the road.

I don't meal prep. I make dinner ever night and eat left overs the next day. I don't want to eat week old food to save like an hour a night or two a week.

I lift weights desu, how the hell do you subsist on 1500 calories a day
And is $1k to $2k really worth 365 hours spent cooking that you could do something else with?
>>10832382
I could extrapolate this to the meditteranean place down the street where I can get 2000+ calories worth of healthy bomb ass food for $20. This vs. an hour spent cooking for bland chicken and green beans at a small caloric surplus

Should've known it was a /fit/ poster. How can this one board be so inept at both finance and cooking? I wish I had a /fit/ roommate so I could cook fresh every night and not have to eat/repurpose as much leftovers.

Or not, and I'll just keep cooking for my family and invite friends instead of having to deal with the autism.

>> No.10832654

You're doing the math all fucked up.
If you paid $15 for 6 chicken breasts, they're over a pound each. A serving size for chicken is 3-4 ounces, and a pound is 16 ounces. $15 in chicken should get you 30 4-ounce servings of chicken, given that the chicken breast costs about $1.99/lb which is average. Even if you double the portion of chicken that would be 15 servings.

Also, regarding calories, you are not adding enough to your meals. Use healthy oils, sauces, or even just some butter or cheese to add fat and calories to your meal for cheap. However, I think your calorie counts are way off. Just one pound of raw chicken breast has about 500 calories, and a cup of white rice has about 200. Without the broccoli or any added fat that's almost double what you estimated.

tl;dr OP can't do basic math and should probably give up and eat Taco Bell bean burritos for every meal anyway so that he dies faster with less of a chance to reproduce.

Not him but I'm a former fatass who lost weight and then started lifting. There are so many C O P E -ing people out there when it comes to lifting, or even exercise in general. It makes your day to day life so much easier, and you don't realize until it changes. You shouldn't get short of breath bending over to tie your shoes, or sore knees from sitting and standing from the toilet, or lose balance and fall except under very extreme circumstances, or needing a shit ton of momentum and using your hands to get into/out of your bed or car or something.

Chicken breast is more expensive than beans. Use chicken thighs or buy a whole chicken.

You could probably make 8-10 bean burritos for the same price if you made them at home from dry beans.

For one, buy cheaper ingredients. It's not like Taco Bell is using top-grade, premium quality ingredients in what they sell at you so it's a bit of a false equivalence to compare it that way.
Secondly, you're comparing the price of beans to the price of the costlist whole segment of chicken, which is another false equivalence.
Next, you just implied that you eat nearly a pound of meat in a single meal (6 chx tits is roughly 4.67lbs and that's "5ish servings" for you, you say; that's about 15oz of meat per serving).
And finally, 15oz of chicken breast is about 425 calories on its own. A portion of rice is another 275 calories or so and the broccoli about another 40. That's not to mention whatever cooking oil you're using, which is 135 calories per tablespoon. Using 2tbsp oil to prepare your 15oz of chicken with rice and broccoli, your meal would be about 1000 calories.
