Best case when dealing with these is answer how an ideal employee would answer. Honestly won't get you far. Nobody is actually going to tell the manager they caught Tyrone stealing fries.

>we're hiring sign

>"alright can you be here tomorrow?"

there are signs at my local fast food places that say the manager will see applicants at a specific time on thursdays, if they're going to hire you they'll pretty much just tell you to come in at the end of the interview

just walk to another place until this happens would be what I'd try to do, though I know things aren't always so simple

I was looking for a job as a pastry cook. Got an interview at a pastry shop ten miles away from my home. Came in for a stage two days later and saw the majority of their shit came out of a bagged mix, even the mousse came out of a mix. They had creme brulee that was being torched and then put in refrigerated display cases which would then cause the caramel to dissolve and turn into a syrup. They offered me a job but I didn't accept it.

>> No.10820547

>>10820511
Most companies don't even do a background check half the time for low level positions. it's hilarious how many people i know with felons on their records working jobs yet it's a complete don't ask or tell thing since they got hired. No one wants to go "oh i fucked up" because then EVERYONE needs to get a background check reviewed, and usually HR will be completely fired.

>> No.10820551

>>10820531
eh not really. i'm a felon and both my jobs are better than mcdonald's. it's really just these big companies that blacklist felons and certain misdemeanors. it's also starting to be frowned upon. CA recently banned the box completely. they can't ask you about your record until they've shown an interest in hiring you.

for the most part, misdemeanors don't hurt your chances of getting a good job with a few specific exceptions (dui = no driving, public indecency = no kids, etc). felons with no work experience really get a bad wrap because most entry jobs automatically disqualify felons. felons with 10 years in a kitchen? easy line cook job anywhere.

What is your relevance to this? This was a conversation about felons and many entry level jobs. A felon with 0 experience will likely have a very difficult time applying for anything that does a background check. Mom and pops or construction is your best best. A regular person with 0 experience? Just bite the bullet and start at retail, fast food or a restaurant. Unless you have higher education, you can't be picky. You can also try your luck at an apprenticeship if you're mechanical (pipefitters, sheet metal, iron workers) or mathematically inclined (electricians).

Or just bribe someone at the painter's/carpenter's union.

Temp agencies are good for jobs but the jobs aren't good for you. Temp agencies can get your foot in the door but most places you work in will see you as, only a temp. Unless you're one of the dozens who are exemplary, the temp agency will usually let go of you after your probation period. That's when they lose their tax credits and/or other kick backs. You're just a temp. And resumes don't look great when you list a bunch of 3-6 month employments in succession. If desperate for experience in a RELATED field, I'd get into one. It might give you enough experience for your employer to overlook your criminal history, lack of experience, older age with no experience, etc. They also usually don't contribute to unemployment. Ah, that's out of my wheelhouse, but I'd suggest trying to see if there are any kind of summer research assistant jobs, or fuck it, it your school has research programs see if you can sign up for any of that shit. They might pay your like $30 a pop to be a subject for something. I did that a few times and used the pocket change to buy beer and records

the thing is that i go to school in NYC. My school has so many opportunities like that. But now for the summer im in Virginia. FUCK THIS STATE. There is nothing. No opportunities like that, just retail jobs that pay like $7 an hour. Fuck this shit. NY min wage is $15 an hour. Christ. I've been googling research jobs but they all require experience.

1100 a week, 40 hour weeks, is 27.5/h. That's a very MEDIOCRE amount for anyone past their 30s. For you to live off 1/4th of that for the rest of your life is to live off the equivalent of 7/h. Then again, you most likely don't pay taxes on that so 1100 is your net which bring you up to the 10/h range. Do you really want to live off 10/h until you die? I don't really buy this. I dated a girl who was legitimately autistic as well as depressed and socially anxious. She told me every day for two years how she was trying so hard to get a job and no one would hire her. It turned out she thought she was trying hard, but in reality she was doing a terrible job filling out online applications constantly with the minimum info.

After we broke up she got treatment for her depression, immediately got three temp jobs, and then talked her way into a sales research career position at a scientific company. All with no college degree. The key was showing some energy and personality instead of just rubberstamping applications all day.

I know so many small business owners who would kill for young employees who have no criminal history and can pass a drug test. Anyone in a skilled trade is watching their workers retire and the only people who apply now are methheads. I had an appliance repair guy offer to train me to take over his business. I probably should have taken him up on it but I've been involved in IT for a long time.

You can't fucking MAKE people sign up for cards they don't want. You'd have cashiers who ask every single person if they would like to sign up for one and either the person would say no or tell them they already have one. Plus its a small town so its not like theres a huge influx of people showing up that wouldn't have one. The amount you got each day was entirely random if any at all.

People should get jobs based on merit. Not based on how well they can lie on a resume about themselves or how social they are (unless the job is innately social). Why should this generation have to jump through hoops like becoming best friends with all the staff, having multiple years of experience for entry level positions and tons of unpaid internships and a degree when one generation ago people could walk into fucking NASA basically and give them a firm handshake right out of high school for the equivalent of six figures today?
