Hey /ck/, my chemo started a week ago and food is like something from another planet for me since then, I was a total food before that. Has anyone a good idea what I could try?

it's basically a godsend for something chronically painful like Chemo, back injury, etc.

Rice and Bannana's good for the diaherria

whole grains good for constipation

eat smaller meals more frequently to deal with appetite loss

ginger and ginger candy good for nausea

Onions, Garlic, and selenium high foods like fish/shellfish for immune system

OJ good for dry mouth if you don't have sores

The BRAT diet- bananas, apples, rice and toast- is supposed to be good for nausea and diarrhea. Crackers are also good. Whenever I feel nauseous, I can always stomach a ritz cracker.

A good smoothie is to puree a mango, 3 kiwis, a cup of pineapple chunks, a handful of spinach/or a tablespoon of chlorella, and 2 peaches in a blender or food processor, then freeze the resulting liquid in muffin tins or ice cube trays. When you want a smoothie, blend 1 'muffin' or 3 'ice cubes' with a cup of apple juice and half a banana. It tastes like Odawalla green juice and is pretty good. Also, protein powder is good for weight gain. Maybe also try meal replacement powders if you have trouble eating.

I like this smoothie because you only have to buy prep and blend all of those fruit ingredients once, then you just keep bananas and apple juice on hand to blend with the frozen juice cubes.

Hey OP sorry about your cancer. My dad has had lymphoma for years and has had chemo plus rotuxin and the other treatments. I think everyone is a little different about how they tolerate chemo. I've spent a bunch of time in treatment centers and that's the feedback nurses have given me. He was able to eat simple foods like pastas even at his worst. I think most of his appetite loss was really from fear and stress rather than the chemo. Saltines, pastas, chicken soup, are all good places to start.

The anti-nausea meds didn't work well for him and he wasn't willing to smoke weed. A family friend did smoke weed while getting treated and that helped him a lot, he was losing a lot of weight and it helped him reverse this.

Drink like 4l a day. Flat coke is good for upset stomach and I found it's easier to drink 2 litres of soda than 1 litre of water after drinking 3 litres already. Tea is great as well.
Keto diet helps beat the cancer, but if you feel like having a slice of cake, go for it. Morale is more important than perfect diet. All you need is to weaken the cancer cells, chemo kills them.

Do you mean you have difficulty eating due to appetite?

You're going to need to make sure to keep your calories and nutrition up. I can't say I have ever been in your situation with chemo, but when I know I need food but I am not hungry and find stuff generally unappetizing at the time, I will make a fruit smoothie (With full fat yogurt) or a big milkshake.
