Couldn't tell you. But goddamn when you have a good BBQ'd eel, holy fucking shit. Have to be at the right place and get a good one though.

You know I also think sea urchin is really good in the sushi format. I know it's a meme but I don't care. I think even more people would like it if they tried it.

What's stopping you? You can buy frozen freshwater eel at asian markets, or you can have the fish counter at a supermarket order you a box. It's inexpensive. The preparation isn't very hard either.

Who likes eel? Oh OP and the first two responders. In ten years in Japan I only ever met one Japanese who said it was their favourite. It's waaaay overpriced shit tier food.

Asian stores near me don't have it, though I didn't know I could have it ordered. How do you prepare it?

My bad.
I'd never buy that crap, but I've seen them prepare it on tv. Doesn't look hard, just YouTube it.

There are two basic methods done in Japan, and both are easy as fuck.
The basic one:
Take the eel fillets. Thread onto skewers to make them easier to flip. Put them on a charcoal grill or under the broiler in your oven. High heat. Baste them with sauce while they cook (you can buy "unagi sauce", or make your own).

The other method is to steam the fillets first, then proceed as above.

Making Tonkatsu for dinner.

Sauce will be a mix of ketchup, worcestershire, ponzu, horseradish mustard and mirin..

Salad dressing will be ponzu and mirin. Going to cut up some tomatoes and toss it in the salad with the dressing.

Anything I can do to improve? Not going out to buy anything else.

Eel is fucking delicious. I had eel sushi and tempura eel that blew my sucks off in Japan. I had only ever had it once before on holiday in Canada and whilst it was good I didn't think eel was amazing until trying it in season in Japan.

There's a small Japanese grocery near me that has frozen Natto. Do you serve it on rice or eat it by itself or what?
